The mother of Jean Charles de Menezes has said she feels "reborn" after a jury at an inquest into her son's death rejected a verdict of lawful killing
The 10 jurors returned an open verdict after listening to more than seven weeks of evidence into the 27-year-old's death.
Earlier, Mr de Menezes' family had said the inquest was a "whitewash" after the coroner said the jury could not return a verdict of unlawful killing.
But after the jury rejected a string of claims made by police officers about the events leading up to Mr de Menezes being killed, Maria Otone de Menezes said she was relieved.
In a statement read out at a news conference by the family, Mrs de Menezes said: "Since the moment that the coroner ruled out the option of unlawful killing I was feeling very sad.
"But today I feel as if I have been reborn."
In a damning indictment, they dismissed claims by a firearms officer, codenamed C12, that he shouted "armed police" before opening fire.
The jury also disputed that Mr de Menezes had walked towards officers before he was killed.
The jurors concluded that six police failings caused or contributed to the innocent man's death.
The jury of five men and five women came to a majority of eight to two in delivering their open verdict. Of the remaining 12 questions, the jury were unanimous on all but two of them.
Firearms officers shot Mr de Menezes on a train at Stockwell Tube station in south London on July 22, 2005, after mistaking him for failed suicide bomber Hussain Osman.
As the jury returned its verdict after its sixth day of deliberations, the Menezes family accused coroner Sir Michael Wright of "presiding over a complete whitewash".
In a fierce attack, they said he "failed on every count" during proceedings.
After the hearing, acting Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Paul Stephenson said: "We must and do accept full responsibility for his death.
"For someone to lose their life in such circumstances is something the Metropolitan Police regrets.
"In the face of enormous challenges faced by officers on that day, we made a most terrible mistake. I am sorry."
He said officers had been working in a "unique situation" in the wake of the July 7 suicide bombings - in which 52 people were killed - and the attempted terror attacks in the capital on July 21, after which there were potential bombers on the loose.
"No one set out that day to kill an innocent man. The coroner has ruled that on the extensive evidence put to the court that this was not an unlawful killing."
He said the officers who shot the Brazilian "set out with the intent to protect and defend the public".
Some 100 people gave evidence at the inquest into the death of Mr de Menezes.
Among them were 65 police officers, mostly firearms and surveillance experts, 50 of whom were granted anonymity.
The jury also heard from 17 Tube passengers and Mr de Menezes's cousins.
There was much anticipation that former Met Commissioner Sir Ian Blair could give evidence, but he resigned just under two weeks into the inquest.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission called for a review of police procedures in the wake of the shooting.
IPCC chairman Nick Hardwick said the inquest did not "examine the broader issue of how the police should respond to the threat of suicide terrorism.
"I call again for this to have much broader debate and scrutiny by the public and their representatives," he said.
Sky News crime reporter Martin Brunt said it was a "distinct possibility" that the IPCC, which initially cleared those involved of any wrongdoing, would choose to review that decision.
He said that since the jury had effectively decided that the firearms officers had lied about giving a warning before the shooting, disciplinary action was a possibility.
Needless to say, and contrary to the bullshit being parroted by the BBC, Sky and all the others, no-one has yet proved that De Menezes' executioners made any mistake whatsoever when they killed an innocent man.
The only thing that has been proved is that the executioners and their bosses have lied through their fucking teeth about the execution and that the full force of the establishment was used to slander an innocent victim after he was killed
And no amount of corporate media spin can hide that

and, in the light of the fact that the bastards who ordered the execution are completely unrepentant and have openly, and repeatedly, stated that it could very easily happen again, it's also fucking scary

edit: actually, something else was proved in the inquest and that is the police knew full well that JCdM was not carrying anything that could have been a bomb and therefore could not have been a potential bomber
Rest assured that little nugget is going to be filed away in the same memory hole as the revelation earlier this year that the alleged 7/7 bombers supposedly scattered their ID, personal effects and bombs around the crowded tube carriages before setting their bombs off (?!!)
and conspiracy theorists are supposedly mentally unwell because they're sceptical of official narratives? For fuck's sake...

What a lot of balls
Based on a couple of recommendations, I've just picked up a copy of this book...
Flat Earth News
An award-winning reporter exposes falsehood, distortion and propaganda in the global media
"Finally I was forced to admit that I work in a corrupted profession." When award-winning journalist Nick Davies decided to break Fleet Street's unwritten rule by investigating his own colleagues, he found that the business of truth had been slowly subverted by the mass production of ignorance.
Working with a network of off-the-record sources, Davies uncovered the story of the prestigious Sunday newspaper which allowed the CIA and MI6 to plant fiction in its columns; the daily newsroom where senior reporters casually refer to 'nig nogs' and where executives routinely reject stories about black people; the respected quality paper which was so desperate for scoops that it hired a conman to set up a front company to entrap senior political figures. He found papers supporting law and order while paying cash bribes to bent detectives and hiring private investigators to steal information.
Davies names names and exposes the national news stories which turn out to be pseudo events manufactured by the PR industry and the global news stories which prove to be fiction generated by a new machinery of international propaganda.
He shows the impact of this on a world where media consumers believe a mass of stories which, in truth, are as false as the idea that the Earth is flat - from the millennium bug to the weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, tainting government policy, perverting popular belief.
One of the problems I understand that Nick Davies identifies is that journalists, even if they are pure of heart, no longer have the resources to expend on genuine investigative journalism.
Genuine investigative journalists may spend months or years pursuing a potential story with no certainty of a result worth publishing
Channel 4, for example, has become particularly adept at commissioning and knocking out trash documentaries which clearly took no more than a couple of weeks of Googling and a couple of days of filming on a high street somewhere to produce
The harsh reality of this kind of commercial pressure is, of course, one of the principal arguments used to justify those fuckers at Capita extorting £140 with menaces from every household to fund the BBC
It clearly doesn't work though, as the BBC produces the same kind of vacuous, superficial dross dressed up as investigative journalism as the commercial outlets.
In recent years the main BBC news bulletins have been transformed into vehicles that simply repeat government and corporate press releases; in a way that's far too reminiscent the kind of Propaganda Ministries seen in dystopic fiction to be at all funny
There are, however, noble exceptions to the rule. The BBC is still willing to invest resources in hard-hitting quality investigate documentaries that take over a year to produce and will only ever be shown when the Beeb gets round to it...

The BBC has found itself under siege from all sides over its decision to make a documentary about the bombings that took place in London on 7 July, 2005.
In June, the Beeb was criticised by the victims' families after it emerged that it paid the expenses of the disgraced academic, Dr Nick Kollerstrom, to appear in a programme about the atrocity as part of the Conspiracy Files series.
Kollerstrom, who denies the Holocaust, thinks the bombers may have been "innocent patsies" set up by elements of the Israeli, British and US security agencies. Now it is the turn of the conspiracy theorists to start spitting feathers.
Kollerstrom and another of the interviewees, the journalist Tony Gosling, claim they were told the programme would be aired some time this month, only to be informed that it has now been shelved until later this year.
Being conspiracists, they naturally smell fish. Gosling says: "We have been told that it is down to legal reasons but this seems to be another tentacle of the war on terror. To be honest, I'm a bit shell-shocked about it. Some of us have put our necks on the line for this."
While the corporation says the documentary will eventually see the light of day, it insists that there was never any plan to show it this year. "It was never on the schedule so there was no set release date," says a spokesman.
"We tend to air these programmes when there is some sort of report to peg them to. It is definitely not for legal reasons."
First off, I no fan of the carefully selected 'troofers' the BBC is going to use in the show
But it strikes me as awfully strange that the BBC is sitting on material for so long that it runs a very real risk of becoming outdated before it is broadcast
So my guess, based on a little hard evidence, is that the BBC was planning to air the program round about now
Now what could have caused the delay?
The BBC spokesperson concedes that these kind of shows are normally timed to coincide with an event such as a government report, or ...a trial verdict
So, have there been any terror trial verdicts that didn't quite go the way they were supposed to recently?
Majority option for bomb plot jury - Thursday August 28 2008
The jury in the trial of eight men accused of plotting to blow up transatlantic passenger jets has been given a majority instruction...
Lordy, lordy what a surprise
Juries, eh? What a pain in the arse - it's about time someone did something to do away with them
and not forgetting the recent trial of three alleged 7/7 conspirators which also went tits up recently
that would be the trial where it was revealed that the alleged 7/7 bombers scattered their personal ID around the tube carriages and took off their rucksacks before the bombs went off
No doubt the excellent and entirely honourable BBC investigative journalists will be able to blow apart any conspiracy theories arising from that little revelation and publish their findings just as soon as the next show trial goes as planned
Confused as to how all those chilling plots fit together? You won't be after you've worked though this pile of balls

We're going to have to get a bigger stick
The reason why I have such a very big problem with Richard Dawkins is not that he is the leading spokesperson for Darwinist Evolutionary Theory. As it happens, I personally have many strong objections to Darwinism. However, some of my best friends are Evolutionists yet I feel absolutely no need to direct abuse at them
Nope, it's not the Darwinism thing that pisses me off about Dawkins
It's the fact that he represents the perversion of what now passes for popular science which has little to do with the idealised scientific method and a lot more to do with advocacy, case-building, lawyers tricks and politics
Science shouldn't be about amassing whatever evidence you can find to support your ideas
It should be about seeking out the material which most strongly challenges your theories
The perfect scientist says to himself every day 'I don't want to be wrong so I'm going to come up with everything I can to prove myself wrong'
Some common clues which suggest that someone posing as a scientist might actually be behaving like a Dawkins-style scientician include...
- Any reference to 'scientific consensus'
- Presentation of modelled data as real data
- Cherry picking of real data and the rejection, or editing, of anomalous data
- Any attempts to force people into 'you're with us or against us' style false choices
- Any claims that the science of any subject is 'settled once and for all'
- Attempts to depict anyone with opposing points of view as a nutter
The problem is, of course, when faced with a fundamentalist pulling these kind of stunts is that it's difficult not to be drawn into a similar pattern of behaviour and respond to foamy-mouthed advocacy with foamy-mouthed counter advocacy
I've had a couple of recent exchanges with some chums on the subject of man made global warming
They believe it's happening. I'm not so sure
They send me links about temperatures going up. I send them links about temperatures going down
They send me links about polar bear numbers shrinking and pictures of cute baby bears stuck on ice floes. I send them links about about polar bear numbers not shrinking and pictures of ice breakers stuck in ice
None of which proves dick
But sometimes I can't help myself, even though I know better. So...
My other 1/2's Dad is over from New Zealand for a few weeks and we were chatting about how the winter in New Zealand was panning out
He mentioned that snowfall has been so heavy this year that one ski resort had to go out and buy a bigger measuring stick
I did a few quick web searches and confirmed that was indeed the case. In passing, I couldn't help noticing that Australia's had a pretty special year for snow too
- and then I remembered visiting Athens this year, a few days after it had been covered by six inches of freak snow
- and then I remembered a mate spending the night in my place after visiting China with a suitcase full of flip flops and chinos only to walk into the worst snowstorms in fifty years
- It snowed in Baghdad this year for the first time in a century
Here in the UK we've just endured yet another spectacularly shitty summer, with the BBC covering up for that other bunch of propagandist stooges at the Met Office, who fucked-up their summer forecast yet again, by downplaying how bad the summer was and knocking out articles suggesting that there was nothing unusual about this summer at all...
Last month was the first sunspot-less month in a century
I can't find any reference to that fact on the State Broadcasting Company's website but I did find an old article bigging up the implications of sunspot activity four years ago (link corrected), when sunspot activity was consistent with the global warming myth. The article ends with the most outstanding horseshit I've seen labeled as science for at least a week...
'This latest analysis shows that the Sun has had a considerable indirect influence on the global climate in the past, causing the Earth to warm or chill, and that mankind is amplifying the Sun's latest attempt to warm the Earth.'
When the language of climate change gets so screwed up that the Sun is referred to as having an 'indirect impact on global climate' (as opposed to the presumably ever so direct impact of that devil gas CO2) you can be pretty sure somebody's trying to sell you a serious lemon

Whooops
The really scary thing is that, in this fucked-up post 9/11 world, it's only the strength of Russia and China that stands a chance of keeping our own war-mongering establishment in check
which is probably why the likes of the BBC, CNN, SKY and Fox have been contorting themselves to an embarrassing degree in their efforts to maintain their uniformly bent coverage of the fighting in Ossetia and the pissiest little foul-ups in Beijing
and as for David Miliband accusing the Russians of pursuing '19th century forms of diplomacy' and behaving in a manner that was 'unacceptable in the 21st century', the warmly appreciative comments underneath this article (PS nice one Merkin) suggest at least some people are as nauseated by that hypocritical c*nt as I am

The BBC, respecting its audience's intelligence since 1922 - pt2
This is a video of a chap called Barry Jennings
Barry worked in WTC7 and was unlucky enough to get trapped in WTC7 for a few hours before it collapsed on 9/11
Barry featured heavily in the BBC Conspiracy Files documentary last week about the collapse of WTC7
What wasn't at all clear was what the makers of the documentary were trying to tell us with the clips of Barry they showed.
Barry's account was heavily edited and the context of what he was saying was not properly explained. An attempt was certainly made, however, to leave viewers with the impression that Barry's account of his experiences on 9/11, whatever they actually were, had been misrepresented by 9/11 conspiracy theorists
If you take the time to play the above two-part Youtube video of an unedited interview with Barry things are a lot clearer - and get particularly interesting four minutes into the second part
What Barry is saying is that, on 9/11, WTC7 suffered from a series of internal explosions and started disintegrating internally before WTC1 collapsed and damaged WTC7
If Barry's account is accurate WTC7 was not destroyed as the result of two airliners hitting the twin towers
Of course, all the usual caveats about placing too much faith in any eye witness testimony, for or against any position you hold, or trusting anything put out by the Loose Change crew apply

John was a New York fireman working in WTC1 on the morning of 9/11
John has lots of interesting things to say about what he saw in WTC1 and believes that the lower levels of the building had been badly damaged by something other than the plane strike 'eighty floors above'
John reportedly lost five of his immediate workmates that day, as well as 40% of his lung capacity and maybe some of his marbles from breathing in toxic crap.
It would be interesting to see if any BBC television producers or any other conspiracy theory debunkers would have the cheek to accuse John of being an insensitive ghoulish jackal or a friend of the terrorists for expressing doubts about the official narrative of a terrorist atrocity.
Come to think of it, if what the likes of John and Barry are saying is true it's the BBC television producers who are the insensitive ghoulish jackals

Mark Loizeaux runs one of the world's leading demolition companies, Controlled Demolition Incorporated, and holds the world record for bringing down the largest steel structure, the J L Hudson building in Detroit (WTC1 and 2 apparently didn't count when the records were being handed out)

Somebody must be doing something right redux
Anyone who has bumped into this blog more than a couple of times will have noticed that I have doubts about the Official Narrative of the July 7th bombings and the wider War on Terror
And whenever the subject of July 7th comes up I endorse the efforts of the July 7th Truth Campaign - a group of people who try very hard to research the Official Narrative of 7/7 in as objective and sensitive a way as they can
Naturally enough, there are other 7/7 sceptics out there who are little less objective and a little less sensitive about how they go about things
Some of those other 7/7 sceptics also have some pretty peculiar beliefs and opinions on other subjects
but, in the same way that I don't accuse all Labour Party supporters of being mass murdering genocidal twunts simply because they support a political party which has given safe haven and a platform to mass murdering genocidal twunts, that doesn't mean I or other 7/7 sceptics agree with or approve of some of the nonsense other self-professed 7/7 'conspiracy theorists' come out with
This should be an obvious enough point but, sadly, it appears to be too intellectually demanding for certain bloggers and other members of the 'commentariat' to grasp
A few months ago I mentioned that the BBC was putting together a documentary (sic.) about 7/7 Conspiracy Theories. I also mentioned that everyone I personally rate in the field of sceptical 7/7 research had told the BBC to go fuck itself. I speculated at the time that, cheated of its prey, the BBC would probably whisk up a few genuine nutters and/or provocateurs, pretend that they were the real™ and representative voice of 7/7 scepticism and do a number on them
A few months after my post a guy called Nick Kollerstrom hove into view - billed by 7/7 conspiracy theory debunkers as a 'leading' 7/7 conspiracy theorist and exposed (sic.) as a revisionist Holocaust Denier at more or less the same time
I love coincidences
Well, the completely unplanned, unmanaged, cross-media marketing campaign that is Operation BBC Conspiracy Files now appears to be entering its next phase
A spot of manufactured outrage in the Evening Standard...

By slagging off the Beeb for doing the interests she cheerleads for a favour, Melanie is trying have her cake and eat it. Only her mouth is probably so full of bile she probably couldn't get it down anyway
and, as with the police and politicians doing the terrorists' work for them by bigging up their capabilities at every opportunity, even if I didn't have doubts about the Official July 7th Narrative in the first place, the fact that the BBC needs to resort to such slimy tricks would just scream out to me that something about the War of Terror fable is terribly amiss

only they're not - I've just checked. And there's a very a good chance that the 'J7 researchers' billed in the flier are none other than every 7/7 sceptic's favourite holocaust denier Dr Nicholas Kollerstrom.

Vote for UK plc - because every little helps
Almost two years ago now I wrote a couple of posts advocating that Tescos either became a political party eligible for national government or that the entire UK, including its population, was incorporated as a public limited company and sold onto Tescos

Based on their existing loyalty card scheme, a Tesco National ID card could incorporate a points based reward system which would enable good citizens to earn valuable credits through worthwhile acts which they could subsequently redeem to gain admission into hospitals which won’t kill them or enable them to use their rubbish bins or taps without fear of being tasered. Well, maybe just a little bit
So, naturally enough, I am gratified to read this article in the Daily Telegraph which confirms, yet again, that Conspiraloons such as your truly, are well ahead of the curve when it comes to truly radical and progressive thinking…

Absolutely f**king disgraceful
Now that the British 2008 Spring/ Summer TERROR!! Season is fully under way, with four (I missed one from my list the other day) collateralised terror trials starting or finishing in the space of a few days, there's been a fair old spike in on-line discussion about 7/7 and the TERROR!! threat generally

Much of that discussion - both pro and anti the sceptical position I personally take about the Official Narrative of 7/7 - has been informative and thought provoking
Some of it has been fucking disgraceful
In particular, some people associated with an allegedly progressive, left wing web site have been working very hard to gleefully smear anyone who has doubts about the Official Narrative of 7/7 as being racist holocaust deniers
The nature of the evidence to support this accusation goes like this...
1. Someone who posted holocaust revisionist material on right wing forums has also expressed doubts about the official narrative of 7/7 and posted links to the July 7th Truth forum (J7T)
2. The J7T forum maintains private areas
er, that's it
Whilst I appreciate that we now live in a country where reading up on current affairs, shopping at Tescos or playing tennis can be unashamedly presented as proof of evil intent, as evidence goes, this is still pretty thin
And whilst I have no doubt that some racist holocaust deniers dabble in 7/7 scepticism, I'm equally sure that some racist holocaust deniers probably support Arsenal, own a Celine Dion CD, watch Coronation Street and drink lager
Nazi Cow!!
Alternatively, one could make the same point by a simple link to Neo-Fascist, probable holocaust deniers who believe that 7/7 happened in exactly the way the government says it did
As for the issue of the J7T forum maintaining private areas, even though I'm not an active J7T researcher I have been trusted with access to those private parts of the forum where active members discuss administrative issues and talk off-topic shit.
Now, I may be abusing the trust that was given to me when granted access to those private threads but I can reveal that there is no talk promoting space aliens, David Shayler worship, paedophilia, cannibalism, vivisection, virgin sacrifice, racism or holocaust denial
I have seen the private thread which linked to the website claiming that J7T activists are hate-mongers and, not surprisingly, the gist of it is 'take a look at what these dicks are saying about us!!'
In fact, more than any group that I know of, especially the bunch of spackers pushing this crap, the folk at J7T are acutely conscious of how holocausts start and fear that we may be living through times which mirror the events of seventy five years ago
Ordinarily, I wouldn't give that much of a toss about a small, insignificant website pushing bollocks smears about some people who I like and respect. I wouldn't even normally react to the fact that the allegations have been painted with such a broad brush that they encompass anyone with doubts about 7/7, myself included
I certainly wasn't going to post anything about it
Except that, the 'racist holocaust denier' mentioned in the original smear (someone I don't know from Adam but who is described as a 'leading British truth seeker') is reportedly talking with the BBC
A few months ago the producers of the BBC's Conspiracy Files started contacting prominent 7/7 'conspiracy theorists' and inviting them to be ritually crucified on a forthcoming Conspiracy Files program on 7/7 'conspiracy theories'. All of them, very sensibly, told the BBC to go fuck itself.
At the same time, the BBC also contacted some slightly, um, less prominent 7/7 'conspiracy theorists', which led to one comedy posting on a 9/11 forum to the effect of 'I've done fuck all research on 7/7 but the BBC still asked me to appear on their show WTF?!').
In the end, as far as I can tell, the BBC did find someone, someone who claims to be the Rightful King of England and the Messiah, who was willing to talk about 7/7 and offer himself up for carefully edited ridicule on national television
and then things went quiet
and now this shit
So, we're now faced with the distinct possibility that the BBC is going to put out a hit-piece on 7/7 scepticism featuring two 'leading' 7/7 conspiracy theorists - one of whom claims to be Jesus, the other who possibly thinks Hitler was Jesus
(correction per a comment below: actually, the Rightful King of England had the sense to tell the Beeb to piss off as well. So that just leaves the other bloke)
This nonsense just doesn't wash any more. There are now enough people, not a majority by any means, but a useful number who are media savvy enough know a straw man when they see one.
It is neither honest nor honourable to select the most flawed arguments and the most flawed people to present those arguments, edit the results to suit your bosses' agenda and then present the results as objective and truthful
But that won't stop the BBC doing that, or some of us hating what this kind of behaviour represents even more
or believing that this kind of behaviour vindicates our suspicions
Under absolutely no circumstances is it ever permissible for the mainstream media to depict people who mistrust the official accounts or 7/7, or 9/11, as being anything but mentally defective, dishonest or plain wicked - irrespective of whether they are or not
For the moment anyway, I still have the right to question what the British government and establishment tells its subjects. A government and establishment which have been proven time and time again to be a bunch of lying sociopathic bastards
Fuck them
And if whores at the BBC really do knock out an account of those who doubt the Official Narrative of 7/7 which can only rely on smears and dishonesty to make its case then fuck them too, and shame on anyone who chooses to be a part of it
