One thing this blog has always lacked is its own Property feature.
I'm going to rectify that right now and inaugurate my new UK Property supplement with a high quality investment opportunity that's only just come to the market...
Ordinarily, I wouldn't publicise the existence of such a screaming bargain and would hope to quietly snap it up for myself but a) I do not have 250 Large to spend on a cell, and b) I am not insane
In its favour, as well as being in a desirable (sic.) part of North London and close to a railway station, when the time comes, anyone shrewd enough to invest in this compact and bijou residence can have their executor shovel a few spadefuls of earth on it and have it double as their grave
Only the chances are that whoever buys this place will die still owing money on it. So, their corpse would have to turfed out and dumped on a tip and the property put back on the market for the next smart cookie to buy it
Assuming a 10% deposit, a loan of £225,000 at a 5% mortgage rate, this slave hutch can be yours for £1,350 (repayment) or £950 (interest only) per month. When the banking industry decides it wants to take some more money out of your pocket and mortgage interest rates go up to 8% that will be £1,750 and £1,500 respectively. At 10% that will be £2,050 and £1,850
The really insane thing is that I know people who will tell me how much sense this makes. People who have made a *lot* of money flipping properties in the same area that are even more ghastly than this one
The trick is the flipping part
Millions of people in the UK have been playing a nationwide game of financial pass the parcel and as long as they're not the ones left holding the over-priced property with the eye-watering mortgage when the music stops they've won
Only they won't have won, because the economic lives of millions of people left holding over-priced properties with eye-watering mortgages are going to go tits up and everyone is going to have to bear the cost. People who played the property game and those who stayed out of it, all of them.
(As an aside, I understand typical mortgage rates in the UK to be currently in the region of 5% to 6% whereas the savings rate on a typical bog standard deposit account is 0.25%. That's a 20 fold gross profit on the banks' cost of funds. An absolutely eye-watering level of usury by any measure. I suspect that there isn't much outcry over that as most people don't have much in the way of savings and those who do made them off the back of property inflation. However, the banks are getting a lot of that 0.25% money from the government (i.e. the citizens of the UK) and then charging people 5%+ to borrow it back. So, one way or another, people are funding their own debt slavery, whether they are conscious of it or not)
And whether you smell the whiff of conspiracy, or plain stupidity, it's worth asking yourself why virtually no-one, actually I believe no-one, in the mainstream press or government ever questioned the sustainability of house prices rising three, four, five times faster than wages indefinitely. The insane and ruinous inflation of the cost of a fundamental requirement of life, as necessary as food or water, was trumpeted to the heavens
Why are all of those fuckers claiming the Crunch was an unpredictable surprise?
How dumb would you have to be not to see it coming? At the very least this demonstrates that the entire existing system of financial regulation and education needs razing to the ground and rebuilding from scratch
That is if you assume our system of financial regulation and education was put in place to protect and nuture the ordinary muppet on the street.
I've worked in finance so I don't
So, we can't afford our own homes, mum and dad are both working to pay the bills, mum and dad are also maxed out on debt, deposit interest rates have been reduced to virtually zero, most of our shit is manufactured by 3rd world slaves, the UK's sold all its oil, most of the infrastructure has been sold off, the financial future of the next few generations has been mortgaged to the hilt, a bugger load of spend has been hidden temporarily in PFI deals and the government has written a lot of bad cheques. Like a junkie or a gambler with an incurable addiction the UK, and the rest of the West, has sold, pawned, borrowed or stolen everything it can just to get through each day, with no thought of tomorrow
Now what?

Funny F*ckers
Seen in Stockwell Underground Station today...

The station is festooned with the things - including one placed tastefully on the platform directly opposite where JCdM was executed
edit: coincidentally, my North of England correspondent sent me this picture taken in Rochdale station today whilst I was typing this post up...
and remember, it's only subliminal if you're deaf, dumb and f**king blind

Absolutely f**king disgraceful
Now that the British 2008 Spring/ Summer TERROR!! Season is fully under way, with four (I missed one from my list the other day) collateralised terror trials starting or finishing in the space of a few days, there's been a fair old spike in on-line discussion about 7/7 and the TERROR!! threat generally
Much of that discussion - both pro and anti the sceptical position I personally take about the Official Narrative of 7/7 - has been informative and thought provoking
Some of it has been fucking disgraceful
In particular, some people associated with an allegedly progressive, left wing web site have been working very hard to gleefully smear anyone who has doubts about the Official Narrative of 7/7 as being racist holocaust deniers
The nature of the evidence to support this accusation goes like this...
1. Someone who posted holocaust revisionist material on right wing forums has also expressed doubts about the official narrative of 7/7 and posted links to the July 7th Truth forum (J7T)
2. The J7T forum maintains private areas
er, that's it
Whilst I appreciate that we now live in a country where reading up on current affairs, shopping at Tescos or playing tennis can be unashamedly presented as proof of evil intent, as evidence goes, this is still pretty thin
And whilst I have no doubt that some racist holocaust deniers dabble in 7/7 scepticism, I'm equally sure that some racist holocaust deniers probably support Arsenal, own a Celine Dion CD, watch Coronation Street and drink lager
Alternatively, one could make the same point by a simple link to Neo-Fascist, probable holocaust deniers who believe that 7/7 happened in exactly the way the government says it did
As for the issue of the J7T forum maintaining private areas, even though I'm not an active J7T researcher I have been trusted with access to those private parts of the forum where active members discuss administrative issues and talk off-topic shit.
Now, I may be abusing the trust that was given to me when granted access to those private threads but I can reveal that there is no talk promoting space aliens, David Shayler worship, paedophilia, cannibalism, vivisection, virgin sacrifice, racism or holocaust denial
I have seen the private thread which linked to the website claiming that J7T activists are hate-mongers and, not surprisingly, the gist of it is 'take a look at what these dicks are saying about us!!'
In fact, more than any group that I know of, especially the bunch of spackers pushing this crap, the folk at J7T are acutely conscious of how holocausts start and fear that we may be living through times which mirror the events of seventy five years ago
Ordinarily, I wouldn't give that much of a toss about a small, insignificant website pushing bollocks smears about some people who I like and respect. I wouldn't even normally react to the fact that the allegations have been painted with such a broad brush that they encompass anyone with doubts about 7/7, myself included
I certainly wasn't going to post anything about it
Except that, the 'racist holocaust denier' mentioned in the original smear (someone I don't know from Adam but who is described as a 'leading British truth seeker') is reportedly talking with the BBC
A few months ago the producers of the BBC's Conspiracy Files started contacting prominent 7/7 'conspiracy theorists' and inviting them to be ritually crucified on a forthcoming Conspiracy Files program on 7/7 'conspiracy theories'. All of them, very sensibly, told the BBC to go fuck itself.
At the same time, the BBC also contacted some slightly, um, less prominent 7/7 'conspiracy theorists', which led to one comedy posting on a 9/11 forum to the effect of 'I've done fuck all research on 7/7 but the BBC still asked me to appear on their show WTF?!').
In the end, as far as I can tell, the BBC did find someone, someone who claims to be the Rightful King of England and the Messiah, who was willing to talk about 7/7 and offer himself up for carefully edited ridicule on national television
and then things went quiet
and now this shit
So, we're now faced with the distinct possibility that the BBC is going to put out a hit-piece on 7/7 scepticism featuring two 'leading' 7/7 conspiracy theorists - one of whom claims to be Jesus, the other who possibly thinks Hitler was Jesus
(correction per a comment below: actually, the Rightful King of England had the sense to tell the Beeb to piss off as well. So that just leaves the other bloke)
This nonsense just doesn't wash any more. There are now enough people, not a majority by any means, but a useful number who are media savvy enough know a straw man when they see one.
It is neither honest nor honourable to select the most flawed arguments and the most flawed people to present those arguments, edit the results to suit your bosses' agenda and then present the results as objective and truthful
But that won't stop the BBC doing that, or some of us hating what this kind of behaviour represents even more
or believing that this kind of behaviour vindicates our suspicions
Under absolutely no circumstances is it ever permissible for the mainstream media to depict people who mistrust the official accounts or 7/7, or 9/11, as being anything but mentally defective, dishonest or plain wicked - irrespective of whether they are or not
For the moment anyway, I still have the right to question what the British government and establishment tells its subjects. A government and establishment which have been proven time and time again to be a bunch of lying sociopathic bastards
Fuck them
And if whores at the BBC really do knock out an account of those who doubt the Official Narrative of 7/7 which can only rely on smears and dishonesty to make its case then fuck them too, and shame on anyone who chooses to be a part of it
.

Feeling Odd?
Legendary pie-aficionado and Flickr regular Thomas Hawk recently made a comment about a certain poster being used in the latest Metropolitan Police Anti-Terrorism publicity campaign
I won’t reproduce the original poster here but the text reads…
Thousands of people take photos every day
What if one of them seems odd?
Terrorists use surveillance to help plan attacks, taking photos and making notes about security measures like the location of CCTV cameras
If you see someone doing that we need to know
Let experienced officers decide what action to take
Hmmm, given that I and most of my chums a) take pictures of stuff in public places and b) look a bit odd, it’s difficult not to take this latest heap of fear-mongering bollocks personally
It’s also worth remembering that here in the UK we have something like 25% of all the world’s CCTV cameras and that most of those cameras are privately controlled, by poorly-regulated c*nts. So it’s a bit rich, or rather a bit fascistic, when our publicly funded police force is essentially easing towards criminalising anyone who might take photographs of those wretched, corporately-operated, things
Anyway, Thomas’ post (itself picked up from another blog) was picked up by Boing Boing and people have started to post ‘remixes’ of the original poster

There is also a chirpy radio ad to accompany the poster campaign that can be accessed on the Met site here (transcript here)
When a time comes when it’s virtually impossible to distinguish between real anti-terror publicity and satirical anti-terror material that’s a time to start feeling really quite uncomfortable about where we are being led (if, perish the thought, you haven't already)

-
Fans of dystopian sci-fi movies will, however, with all these Orwellian ‘public service’ announcements about generic terrorists and the accelerated blurring of state and corporate power and interests, be feeling right at home…
-
edit: and whilst on the subject of not being able to distinguish 'truth' from satire and dystopian sci-fi, cheers to anon for this little nugget...

Next Week on Fox News - Al Qaeda only 'months away' from completing a Death Star?...

My Messiah™ is better than yours♫ - a Conspiratune♫™
.
Vocals by Kindergarten Dalek™
Video by Muncher®
It would be fair to say that some of us out here in Etherspace are none too impressed with self-styled Messiahs putting out bollocks 'truth' videos about 7/7 which can and almost certainly will be torn apart by the corporate media as a light snack before breakfast
(btw - just because I have just linked to J7 Truth's rebuttal of '7/7 Ripple Effect' that does not mean that the above video is anything to do with J7 Truth - a group of people who have spent two years painstakingly researching the events of 7/7, filing freedom of information requests, trawling through official documentation, forcing the Home Office to change its Official Narrative on the sly, boring stuff like that. To the best of my knowledge, J7 Truth is not in the business of making silly videos and leaves that sort of thing to Conspiraloons™ and wannabee Messiahs with a hard-on for Alien UFOs, Crop Circles, Ancient Sumerian prophecies and any other old crap they can sling into the mix - and there appear to be plenty of them out there)

Cast Your Vote(s) for Real Science
Thanks to Tony for pointing me towards a post on the Cognitive Daily blog which got a plug from Boing Boing a couple of days back...
"In the 'Weblog Awards Best Science Blog Contest' a psuedoscience web site denying the effect humans have on global warming is currently in the lead over real science blogs. Apparently conservative political sites have been directing their readers to vote for it, whether they read it or not."
And Cognitive Daily’s suggested response to allegations of on-line ballot stuffing?
"I would like to ask you do one thing for us in the name of promoting good science on the internet. Vote for Bad Astronomy in the Weblog Awards Best Science Blog Contest. You can vote as often as once a day, and I encourage you to take advantage of that option."
Oh the fucking irony
Naturally, I felt compelled to visit the ‘pseudoscience’ site in question and was rewarded straight away with an amusing little piece about Al Gore and his breezy, Devil may care attitude to graphs...

Even though I’m currently extremely sceptical about the current case being made for Anthropogenic Global Warming and detect the barely disguised stench of a controlling, elitist global agenda behind that case, I’m personally open to hearing what sincere, decent people who buy into AGW have to say.
Trying to make the debate a Left vs. Right issue, insulting people who hold honest and well-founded reservations about AGW, or circulating half-arsed propaganda in our schools in an attempt to terrify and condition our children doesn’t qualify.
-
And on a slightly related subject, whilst I’ve been off-line a post I made on the Conspiraloon™ Alliance blog on the subject of fruity symbolism plastered all over our money generated a comment thread which ranged far and wide over the subjects of political and religious belief systems, culminating in one commentator posting a few images taken from Madonna’s performance of Ray of Light at the 7/7/7 Live Earth Concert…
So, who are the nutters then? The people who make, broadcast and consume this stuff or the admittedly much smaller number of people who think material like this is just a teensy wee bit fucked up and fascist and question where it is all going?

Shiny Happy People
Just in case anyone doesn’t know about it yet there are only 28 hating days to go until Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week kicks off

A quick peek at the cast list will give a fair indication of the kind of selfless, humanitarian interest groups and personalities who are behind this little party
Apparently, these interest groups and personalities are profoundly worried about the oppression of women in Islam
Yeah, and I’m fucking Danish

To mark Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week an organisation called Stop Islamisation Of Europe is planning to hold a rally in London on 26th October on the theme of Islamic Persecution…
“Persecuted minority groups likely to be represented are
Armenians
Assyrians
Copts
Hindus
Sikhs
Indonesian Christians
And others
There will be speakers from these groups”
A pretty broad church indeed which seems to include just about everyone except for the Cornish, probably because the Cornish couldn't bear to be in the company of so many foreigners
I’ve never really understood what the expression Islamo-Fascism is supposed to mean. Maybe it’s the Italian, oops sorry, Danish ancestry but I’m a bit old school when it comes to defining Fascism and believe its core feature to be an unholy merger of state and corporate power
and Islam, however extreme, doesn’t qualify.
I believe the expression to be a deliberate exercise in sophistry, crafted to associate Muslims with Nazis and all the pre-packed baggage that goes with that. However, I can’t help thinking that if Islamic fundamentalists really are Fascists they have would probably have quite a lot in common with the people demonstrating against them
Fascists demonstrating against Fascists - what is the world coming to?
Maybe they should all sit down and have a nice cup of tea and a chat
Maybe they could be friends
"Do you know what Islamo-Fascist Man, we're not so different after all and together we're stronger. Now let's go and kick some Commie butt"
And this Islamisation of Europe thing does seem just a teensy wee bit overblown. It’s not as if our governments, media, banks, police forces, armies or legal systems are swarming with Muslims or even likely to be in the foreseeable future
Convenience stores and kebab shops definitely
The organs of state, financial and cultural power, um no, not really
In short, the Islamisation of Europe is lie. A chimera conjured up to distract people from the de-Islamisation of one particular part of the world and to be a focal point for their rage at all the shit that's going on around them
That’s the plan
There’s a lot to be angry about out there but Muslims aren’t responsible
And anyone thinking about joining in with this Islamo-Fascist awareness crap might want to think about who’s yanking their chain and for what reasons
... or are the objectives of a war mongering neo-con lobby and a ruling elite that demonises the lower classes as ‘chavs’, a ruling elite populated by people who view those lower classes as being only slightly less loathsome than shit on their shoe, really worth fighting for?
-
Rory Winter has more on this latest exercise is getting two groups of people to stand in a street yelling each other, whilst the Powers That Be get on with the serious business of fucking both groups over here
.

Uh-Oh, We're In Trouble, Something's Come Along And It's Burst Our Bubble
Yeah, Yeah! Uh-Oh, We're In Trouble,
Gotta Get Home Quick March On The Double!
Yeah, Yeah! Uh-Oh, We're In Trouble,
Gotta Get Home Quick March On The Double!

Baaaaaaaaaaa!!!
Peter Hitchens ...
... always good for a laugh or two
Now I’d be the first to admit that Hitchens is a bit of, OK a lot of, a wanker much of the time

But not all of the time
Peter was on Question Time last night and answered a question on global warming
I’ve stuck a clip on Putfile rather than YouTube (fascist bastards) here
The reaction of the London based audience was depressing to say the least...
The global warming agenda, as is currently being advocated, is a colossal con.
And hats off to the energy industry for convincing ordinary people that it is somehow opposed to global warming activism.
Actually, the oil companies fucking love global warming activism
Fuck me, they're funding a large slab of it.
The easiest way to rig a match, or a debate, is to have ringers on both sides.
And if a point of view is widely promoted by mainstream politicians and the mainstream media without any significant disagreement or dissent amongst them you can bet this year's Christmas Club money the fix is in.
And you don’t have to be a George Bush loving Christian Fundamentalist Despoiler of the Earth to have issues with the global warming ‘debate’
Five minutes of thought and a little common sense will do that. Put simply...
Humanity is going to look pretty stupid if/ when the weather does change drastically for natural reasons, wipes out all those millions who’ve settled in coastal and marginal regions and all we’ve been doing is titting around ‘trading’ carbon emissions and insulating our lofts for the preceding 40 years.
Or maybe I'm just bitter because I toyed with, and discarded, thoughts of doing a Geology Phd on a climate change related topic 20 years ago and am pissed off because I thought I wouldn't be able to make a living out of it. All the big bucks seemed to be in dinosaurs back then.
How very wrong I was.
Anyway, what was the audience reaction to Hitchens trying to raise some criticisms of the global warming bandwagon?

Forced, mocking laughter
Watching the ignorant, classicly dissonant, reaction of a large group of my fellow citizens to somebody imploring them not to be sheep and to use their critical faculties was the single most depressing thing I’ve seen, outside of a hospice, for weeks
... always good for a laugh or two
Now I’d be the first to admit that Hitchens is a bit of, OK a lot of, a wanker much of the time

- There is no such thing as a ‘correct’, stable global climate. The Earth’s climate has always changed and always will
- Whilst it is perfectly possible that the Earth is warming there is absolutely bugger all direct evidence that we have anything to do with it
- The rational, logical response to the risk of global warming is to prepare to deal with the consequences of climate change. A course of action rarely, if ever, advocated by the enviro-arse lobby

Fans of bad movies and New Zealand rejoice!

The country that brought you landmine awareness tomato sauce sachets has done it again
This looks like it could be pretty special...

Yes, a film that could end up making Snakes on a Plane look like Spartacus and, finally, a rival for Night of the Lepus!

PS the Other Half reliably informs me that the correct figure is nearer 70 million
