Mainstream Conspiraloons #204 James Delingpole

Until recently, the single greatest contribution made to public discourse by Daily Telegraph columnist and professional tory irritant about town, James Delingpole, has been to help polarise the debate about alleged Anthropogenic Global Warming along conventional Right vs Left lines; making it a whole lot easier for the average Jane or Joe on the street to adopt a position on AGW without having to know or think very much about the scientific basis for AGW at all

Left Wing = AGW proponent. Right Wing = Denier. Simples

And when it comes to economic or foreign policy matters James can be most succinctly described as an almost perfect Melanie Phillips clone, but with a cock (though I am making unsubstantiated morphological assumptions here)

James Delingpole

That was until James' most recent column on the subject of the Goldman's coup currently underway in Western Europe...

"...We need to find common ground here, I think – those of us who believe (as the Occupy crowd do) that the current crisis is caused by the failure of capitalism and those of us who believe (as I do) that it is caused by the failure of corporatism, welfarism and – ultimately – the fiat money system. While we are busy being distracted by our particular ideological hobby horses, we are being shafted by a political bankster corporatist elite which doesn't give a stuff about us because we are the little people and we are of no consequence to the New World Order they wish to impose on us.

Beware the Vampire Squid: whether you are on the Left or the Right it will feast on your blood and suck you dry all the same."

My oh my, how those corporate journalists enjoy bashing internet-based conspiraloonery, yet are gradually finding themselves drawn to the language of net-based loondom as their own lexicon becomes less and less capable of describing the shit that's going down

though, obviously, James wouldn't want the Little People to become too focused on the crimes of the Big People at the expense of those distractive ideological hobby horses as, let's be honest here, they're a nice little earner

Mainstream Conspiraloons #120 - Matthew Parris multipack

Matthew Parris - completely off his tits

An absolutely superb torrent of unrelenting mainstream loonery from Matthew Parris which would have been lost for all time behind The Great Paywall of Murdoch if someone hadn't lifted it onto their blog...

The next 20 scandals. So you won’t be shocked

1 Many prison officers are complicit in the supply of drugs within prisons. How else do I reconcile what’s common knowledge — that drug use is rife in prison — with the almost abusive security checks I’ve undergone when I visits friends in prison? Among the reasons for these checks must sometimes be the protection of a monopoly.

2 Nothing like a real competitive market exists among banks or energy suppliers. They are classic cartels, robbing their customers.

3 Many sporting records that still stand — and not just in cycling — have been fuelled by performance-enhancing drugs. Have you noticed the plateauing or even dropping off of many winning times, including in my own former sport of long-distance running? This is because of anti-drug enforcement. There will be more and much bigger stories here than have yet been told.

4 Insider trading. It’s absolutely endemic. In many spheres and all sorts of ways within the financial world, nothing even approaching a free, fair or open market exists. The protection and enhancement of entrenched advantage is, to a far greater degree than capitalist competition, the key dynamic in many markets.

5 The stock exchange has all but lost its original purpose — the financing of new business — and become a turbo-charged, non-stop poker school for a huge, wealthy, essentially unproductive and largely parasitic class. Unfortunately for my argument, Britain makes a lot of money from this...

Lots more here, absolutely heaps

Mainstream Conspiraloons #207 - Lord James of Blackheath

"Wibble"

Now here's
something you don't read every day...

"For the past 20 weeks I have been engaged in a very strange dialogue with the two noble Lords, in the course of which I have been trying to bring to their attention the willing availability of a strange organisation which wishes to make a great deal of money available to assist the recovery of the economy in this country. For want of a better name, I shall call it foundation X. That is not its real name, but it will do for the moment. Foundation X was introduced to me 20 weeks ago last week by an eminent City firm, which is FSA controlled. Its chairman came to me and said, "We have this extraordinary request to assist in a major financial reconstruction. It is megabucks, but we need your help to assist us in understanding whether this business is legitimate". I had the biggest put down of my life from my noble friend Lord Strathclyde when I told him this story. He said, "Why you? You're not important enough to have the answer to a question like that". He is quite right, I am not important enough, but the answer to the next question was, "You haven't got the experience for it". Yes I do. I have had one of the biggest experiences in the laundering of terrorist money and funny money that anyone has had in the City. I have handled billions of pounds of terrorist money."

Lord James is 72

Mainstream Conspiraloons #627 - Michael White of the Guardian

Remove Formatting from selectionMichael White, feeling a bit fruity?

"We need to know truth behind claims of UK complicity in terror suspect torture"

"What has David Davis's overnight speech on alleged British complicity in the torture of terror suspects got to do with the newly unveiled memorial to the 52 victims of the 7/7 London bombs, unveiled in Hyde Park yesterday? Alas, it is the shadowy world of conspiracy theory...

...scratch the surface of yesterday's moving ceremony for the families of the 7/7 dead and all is not well.

The website of the July 7th Truth Campaign crackles with barely contained fury at what it sees as a wilful refusal of the government to hold a public inquiry into what really happened that day, the police and intelligence errors, the discrepancies in the official account, the scale of the plot four years ago yesterday.

It gets worse. Last week, BBC2's Conspiracy Files series "exposed" a man already known to conspiracy theorists as Muad Dib (the name taken from Frank Herbert's Dune novels) to be Sheffield-born John Hill (60) who lives near the Hill of Tara in County Meath and believes he is the Messiah.

Hill sports a long white beard and baseball cap for added authenticity

What is relevant here is that Dib/Hill made the "Ripple Effect" video, which alleges that the 7 July bombings were organised by the usual suspects – Tony Blair, Whitehall, British and Israeli intelligence – to stiffen public support for the war in Iraq....

...The aforementioned J7 campaign has already condemned the Ripple Effect as "unsubstantiated speculation" and the BBC's Conspiracy Files as "risible".

In its stern, unforgiving way, it concentrates on the known facts and known oddities like the official assertion (later corrected) that the four bombers caught the 7.40 from Luton on 7 July 2005 when that train was cancelled that day.

We are already deep in the mirrored, bewildering world of conspiracy theory, in which an official inquiry may satisfy rational supporters of the J7 campaign but not irrational ones or conspiratologists beyond..."

Mainstream Conspiraloons #323: The Financial Times

Well, according to House Price Crash Forum anyway...

Or at least it did until the page was pulled about five minutes ago...

Can I just take this opportunity to say

Mwuhahaha!!

Ha!

We'll keep on fighting and We'll win

(The link to the original FT article about, shock horror, the Rothschilds being slavers is here)

(I've also noticed that some of my old favourite UK-based anti-conspiracy theorist types have recently taken to using terms other than Conspiraloon. 'Conspiranoid' is one alternative that appears to have started doing the rounds. Do not be fooled by these inferior imitations; except maybe 'Conspiranaut', I like that one)

Mainstream Conspiraloons #626 - Napoleon Solo

The Man from L.O.O.N.C.L.E.

Good, I always liked his TV show. And if the Way of the Conspiraloon is good enough for the last surviving member of the Magnificent Seven it's good enough for me

A quick reminder of why shooting RFK, unlike Obama, in the face would have been an excellent idea as far as some people were concerned...

"Too much and for too long, we seemed to have surrendered personal excellence and community values in the mere accumulation of material things. Our Gross National Product, now, is over $800 billion dollars a year, but that Gross National Product - if we judge the United States of America by that - that Gross National Product counts air pollution and cigarette advertising, and ambulances to clear our highways of carnage. It counts special locks for our doors and the jails for the people who break them. It counts the destruction of the redwood and the loss of our natural wonder in chaotic sprawl. It counts napalm and counts nuclear warheads and armored cars for the police to fight the riots in our cities...

Yet the gross national product does not allow for the health of our children, the quality of their education or the joy of their play. It does not include the beauty of our poetry or the strength of our marriages, the intelligence of our public debate or the integrity of our public officials. It measures neither our wit nor our courage, neither our wisdom nor our learning, neither our compassion nor our devotion to our country, it measures everything in short, except that which makes life worthwhile."

Mainstream Conspiraloons #256 - Guess who

Try and guess where I just read this...

"...loans and investments are not made as a result primarily of savings or deposits held by banks, or on the basis of those savings or deposits. On the contrary: it is loans that create deposits.

Loans are not a necessarily a gift from a saver setting aside a portion of their income in a savings account or lent on the international capital markets. Banks do not have to have savings or "reserves" to extend credit to others, and charge interest. Why? Because of another fundamental: that money for a bank loan does not exist until we, the customers, apply for credit. All that the bank needs to hold is the collateral (e.g. a guarantee against a property) to secure a loan.

In other words, far from the bank starting with a deposit or reserves, and then lending out money, the bank starts with our application for a loan (eg £300,000); the asset against which we guarantee or secure repayment, such as our property, and the promise to repay with interest. A clerk then enters the number into a ledger. Hey presto, £300,000 is deposited into the banking system!"

Nope, not on some Multicoloured Multifonted ReactoLoon Survivalist web site but in the fecking Guardian of all places

Jeremy Clarkson predicting the apocalyptic end of capitalism last week and a mainstream British newspaper trying to explain the debt-based money system this week. At this rate the Conspiraloon Alliance, like Woolworths, is going to be out of business before Christmas

Apocalypse Clarkson - now with even more Apocalypse

The Vauxhall Insignia

From The Sunday Times December 7, 2008

Vauxhall Insignia 2.8 V6
An adequate way to drive to hell, Jeremy Clarkson

I was in Dublin last weekend, and had a very real sense I’d been invited to the last days of the Roman empire. As far as I could work out, everyone had a Rolls-Royce Phantom and a coat made from something that’s now extinct. And then there were the women. Wow. Not that long ago every girl on the Emerald Isle had a face the colour of straw and orange hair. Now it’s the other way around.

Everyone appeared to be drunk on naked hedonism. I’ve never seen so much jus being drizzled onto so many improbable things, none of which was potted herring. It was like Barcelona but with beer. And as I careered from bar to bar all I could think was: “Jesus. Can’t they see what’s coming?”

Ireland is tiny. Its population is smaller than New Zealand’s, so how could the Irish ever have generated the cash for so many trips to the hairdressers, so many lobsters and so many Rollers? And how, now, as they become the first country in Europe to go officially into recession, can they not see the financial meteorite coming? Why are they not all at home, singing mournful songs?

It’s the same story on this side of the Irish Sea, of course. We’re all still plunging hither and thither, guzzling wine and wondering what preposterously expensive electronic toys the children will want to smash on Christmas morning this year. We can’t see the meteorite coming either.

I think mainly this is because the government is not telling us the truth. It’s painting Gordon Brown as a global economic messiah and fiddling about with Vat, pretending that the coming recession will be bad. But that it can deal with it.

I don’t think it can. I have spoken to a couple of pretty senior bankers in the past couple of weeks and their story is rather different. They don’t refer to the looming problems as being like 1992 or even 1929. They talk about a total financial meltdown. They talk about the End of Days.

Already we are seeing household names disappearing from the high street and with them will go the suppliers whose names have only ever been visible behind the grime on motorway vans. The job losses will mount. And mount. And mount. And as they climb, the bad debt will put even more pressure on the banks until every single one of them stutters and fails.

The European banks took one hell of a battering when things went wrong in America. Imagine, then, how life will be when the crisis arrives on this side of the Atlantic. Small wonder one City figure of my acquaintance ordered three safes for his London house just last week.

Of course, you may imagine the government will simply step in and nationalise everything, but to do that, it will have to borrow. And when every government is doing the same thing, there simply won’t be enough cash in the global pot. You can forget Iceland. From what I gather, Spain has had it. Along with Italy, Ireland and very possibly the UK.

It is impossible for someone who scored a U in his economics A-level to grapple with the consequences of all this but I’m told that in simple terms money will cease to function as a meaningful commodity. The binary dots and dashes that fuel the entire system will flicker and die. And without money there will be no business. No means of selling goods. No means of transporting them. No means of making them in the first place even. That’s why another friend of mine has recently sold his London house and bought somewhere in the country . . . with a kitchen garden.

These, as I see them, are the facts. Planet Earth thought it had £10. But it turns out we had only £2. Which means everyone must lose 80% of their wealth. And that’s going to be a problem if you were living on the breadline beforehand.

Eventually, of course, the system will reboot itself, but for a while there will be absolute chaos: riots, lynchings, starvation. It’ll be a world without power or fuel, and with no fuel there’s no way the modern agricultural system can be maintained. Which means there will be no food either. You might like to stop and think about that for a while.

I have, and as a result I can see the day when I will have to shoot some of my neighbours - maybe even David Cameron - as we fight for the last bar of Fry’s Turkish Delight in the smoking ruin that was Chipping Norton’s post office.

I believe the government knows this is a distinct possibility and that it might happen next year, and there is absolutely nothing it can do to stop Cameron getting both barrels from my Beretta. But instead of telling us straight, it calls the crisis the “credit crunch” to make it sound like a breakfast cereal and asks Alistair Darling to smile and big up Gordon when he’s being interviewed.

I can’t say I blame it, really. If an enormous meteorite was heading our way and the authorities knew it couldn’t be stopped or diverted, why bother telling anyone? Best to let us soldier on in the dark until it all goes dark for real.

On a more cheery note, Vauxhall has stopped making the Vectra...

Mainstream Conspiraloons #129 - Baron West of Spithead

"Some of the measures that we have put into place in the past 15 months have made us safer, but that does not mean that we are safe"

"The threat is huge. It dipped slightly and is now rising again within the context of 'severe'.

"There are large complex plots. We unravelled one, which caused damage to al-Qaeda and the plots faded slightly.

"However, another great plot is building up again, which we are monitoring.

"We have done a great deal to protect ourselves and to look after our water supplies, our resilience, underground trains, our preparedness and communications.

"We have done all the things that we need to do, but the threat is building - the complex plots are building."

Mainstream Conspiraloons #322 - Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur

Thanks to The Antagonist for bringing my attention to the improbably named Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur waxing truthily on the subject of the proposed Wall Street bailout...

I haven't been discussing the most recent financial shenanigans much with people, either on-line or in the real world. That which much of us knew was coming is now here and will now run its course

It goes without saying that the proposed bailout is clearly a nonsense.

It also goes without saying that our beloved leader Gordon BrNWO supports it wholeheartedly

Along with Brown's repeated references to an 'Economic New World Order' and 'doing whatever it takes to maintain stability', this should give anyone living on this bankrupt, CCTV-saturated little island the willies

Any bail out of Wall Street, or the City, will fail for a very simple reason

Over the last twenty years the US and the UK economies have become structurally reliant on the creation of irredeemable debt. The income and lifestyles of hundreds of millions of people are totally dependent on the perpetual creation and expansion of eye-watering amounts of credit

and it's all over

Even if some Magic Pixies came along and made all the bad debts and all the 12 figure derivatives liabilities go away, there's going to be no more easy credit going forward and anyone whose business or job is dependent on a world filled with people living beyond their means is going to get fucked.

And that's going to happen with or without a bailout

Optimists would say this is an excellent opportunity to see the end of 'Unipolar' Corporate Global Empire and to reorient our societies and populations to the production of solar powered Jetsons-style flying bubble cars, decent education systems and organic potatoes, instead of cluster bombs, invasive bureaucracy and junk food

oToH Pessimists would say that this is an excellent opportunity to see the reintroduction of feudalism and to increase our societies' output of cluster bombs,
invasive bureaucracy and junk food

I'm not optimistic

Mainstream Conspiraloons #632 - Peter Hitchens

A lifetime membership of the Conspiraloon Alliance and a Croix de Loon with honeynut tinfoil clusters are winging their way towards none other than 'the Hitch'...

"It's the creepy plotters who rule us we should really be scared of

Last updated at 1:28 AM on 14th September 2008

There is no such organisation as ‘Al Qaeda’. The spooks know this, Cabinet Ministers know this and so do the ‘security correspondents’ who so readily trot out the spooks’ point of view on our broadcasting networks.

Of course, there are terrorists, and there are also fantasists, fanatics, low-lifes and camp followers who plot and attempt horrible things. Some of them even call themselves ‘Al Qaeda’ these days because they have learned that this is a good way to scare us.

But, while they are a menace, they are not as big or as organised a menace as the Government likes to make out..."

Hark, is that the sound of pennies dropping in Middle England I can hear in the far (far) off distance?

Still, Hitchler is light years ahead of most mainstream 'Leftist' commentators and bloggers - they're still trundling out the same old 'War on Terror Friendly™' bullcrap packaged as Civil Liberties campaigning, day in day out

Mr Hitchens, the Alliance salutes you

Well, some of the time anyway

edit: and FW(little)IW here's the comment I've submitted (in response to an especially ignorant, Pavlovian comment from someone else) under Hitchens' article

"Shortly after the 7/7 attacks Metropolitan Police Commissioner Ian Blair explained to a press conference...

"Al Qaeda is not an organization. Al Qaeda is a way of working ... but this has the hallmark of that approach ... Al Qaeda clearly has the ability to provide training ... to provide expertise ... and I think that is what has occurred here"

Anyone who can take that kind of nonsense on board is a much more eligible candidate for a course of medication and believing in bigfoot

...and belief in a bearded terror mastermind controlling a multinational crime network from a secret base in a hollowed out mountain somewhere. A base that the most technologically advanced nation on Earth has been unable to locate in seven years"

I await the results of comment moderation with bated breath

Mainstream Conspiraloons - #456 Sy Hersh, #457 Keith Olbermann

.

.

.

I find the Hersh piece particularly interesting as it repeats the lie that no US leader, and by implication no other leader of a 'free world' country, would knowingly make a decision that would result in the death of fellow countryfolk

  • It's a lie because it assumes that members of ruling elites give a damn about people outside of their class, just because they live in the same country
  • It's also a lie because, by necessity, people in the business of war routinely make decisions which they know will result in the death of fellow countrymen. Every time a politician or general commits troops to combat they know some of those troops will die as a result of that decision.

Some simple maths, combined with belief in a higher purpose, will dictate whether those leaders consider those casualties 'a price worth paying'.

A decision made somewhat easier by the fact that someone else will invariably be doing the paying

So...

Plus 10 Conspiraloon Loyalty Points to Hersh for breaking that particular story about Dick Cheney and pals brainstorming a false flag operation in Iran

Minus 9 points for qualifying it with a suggestion that it didn't happen because Dick Cheney and pals gave a shit about the potential casualties

mainstream conspiraloons #666 - Melanie Phillips

Melanie Phillips

Already the holder of a Conspiraloon Alliance Lifetime Achievement Award for the simple, yet brilliant, idea of giving The Protocols of the Elders of Zion a new lease of life by doing a quick 'search (Jew) and replace (Muslim)' in her favourite word processor, Melanie Philips has now earned a tinfoil cluster to add to that award with her brilliant and incisive take in Der Schpectator on what's really going on in Scottish politics...

A Caledonian caliphate? (25/6/08)

"...Tomorrow, the Scottish Islamic Foundation will be launched in Edinburgh in Salmond’s presence. But as the invaluable Centre for Social Cohesion tells us, the leading members of this group and many of those who lead its events are closely linked to the Muslim Brotherhood, whose aim is the Islamisation of Britain and Europe.

Its chief executive Osama Saeed, who has worked as Salmond’s researcher and is the SNP’s parliamentary candidate for Glasgow Central, is an Islamist and leading light in the Brotherhood front the Muslim Association of Britain...

... The Salmond/Saeed axis is not merely a disturbing sign of Salmond’s own prejudices. It has a potential strategic significance that goes beyond Scotland. The Brotherhood’s strategy for Britain is to promote separate Islamic development, declare sharia-only enclaves and infiltrate mainstream institutions as a springboard for Islamising the entire society. Since Salmond’s aim is to make Scotland independent from the rest of the United Kingdom, with one leap the Brothers could achieve an Islamised country on England’s border."

The sneaky bastards

though, as single leaps go, it would have to be on the largish side

Glasgow 2020?

and it's all the more fiendish and cunning a plan for the total subjugation of England when you consider that Muslims currently make up less than one per cent of the population of Scotland

Mainstream Conspiraloons #148 - Peter Oborne

'Wibble'

Peter Oborne on form here...

Personally selected highlights include...

"...Last week, Martyn Gilleard, a Nazi sympathiser in East Yorkshire, was jailed for 16 years. Police found four nail bombs, bullets, swords, axes and knives in his flat. Gilleard had been preparing for a war against Muslims. In a note at his flat he had written, "I am sick and tired of hearing nationalists talking of killing Muslims, blowing up mosques and fighting back only to see these acts of resistance fail. The time has come to stop the talking and start to act."

The Gilleard case went all but unreported. Had a Muslim been found with an arsenal of weapons and planning violent assaults, it would have been a far bigger story.

There is a reason for this blindness in the media.

The systematic demonisation of Muslims has become an important part of the central narrative of the British political and media class; it is so entrenched, so much part of normal discussion, that almost nobody notices. Protests go unheard and unnoticed.

Why? Britain's Muslim immigrants are mainly poor, isolated and alienated from mainstream society. Many are a different colour. As a community, British Muslims are relatively powerless. There are few Muslim MPs, there has never been a Muslim cabinet minister, no mainstream newspaper is owned by a Muslim..."

and

"...Islamophobia – defined in 1997 by the landmark report from the Runnymede Trust as "an outlook or world-view involving an unfounded dread and dislike of Muslims, which results in practices of exclusion and discrimination" – can be encountered in the best circles: among our most famous novelists, among newspaper columnists, and in the Church of England. Its appeal is wide-ranging.

"I am an Islamophobe," the Guardian columnist Polly Toynbee wrote in The Independent nearly 10 years ago. "Islamophobia?" the Sunday Times columnist Rod Liddle asks rhetorically in the title of a recent speech, "Count me in". Imagine Liddle declaring: "Anti-Semitism? Count me in", or Toynbee claiming she was "an anti-Semite and proud of it".

Anti-Semitism is recognised as an evil, noxious creed, and its adherents are barred from mainstream society and respectable organs of opinion.

Not so Islamophobia.
Its practitioners say Islamophobia cannot be regarded as the same as anti-Semitism because the former is hatred of an ideology or a religion, not Muslims themselves. This means there is no social, political or cultural protection for Muslims: as far as the British political, media and literary establishment is concerned the normal rules of engagement are suspended.

"There is a definite urge; don't you have it?", the author Martin Amis told Ginny Dougary of The Times: "The Muslim community will have to suffer until it gets its house in order. Not letting them travel. Deportation; further down the road. Curtailing of freedoms. Strip-searching people who look like they're from the Middle East or Pakistan. Discriminatory stuff, until it hurts the whole community and they start getting tough with their children." Here, Amis is doing much more than insulting Muslims. He is using the foul and barbarous language of fascism. Yet his books continue to sell, and his work continues to be celebrated.... "

Peter Oborne's Dispatches film, "It Shouldn't Happen to a Muslim", will be screened on Channel 4 at 8pm on Monday. The pamphlet Muslims Under Siege, by Peter Oborne and James Jones, is published next week by Democratic Audit.

An honorary Conspiraloon Alliance membership is winging Peter's way

-

And whilst picking TV highlights for the coming week it would be criminal not to mention the eagerly awaited BBC Conspiracy Files documentary which is going to finally settle all that insane speculation about WTC7's sudden, but not entirely unexpected, demise...

"9/11: The Conspiracy Files
Highlight

BBC2 London & South East
The Third Tower

There might come a point where you'll find yourself nodding sagely and murmuring, "Mmm, yes, that could have happened, because I must say it sounds very plausible." But you'll come to your senses. Conspiracy theories are nonsense and this particular supposed plot is dafter than most (spread, of course, by that conduit for poisonous nonsense, the internet). Apparently, the 11 September attacks were orchestrated by the Bush administration with the collusion of the secret service and the New York fire and police departments. The evidence? The fate of World Trade Center 7. The 47-storey building was home to various government agencies - it wasn't directly hit by a plane, but collapsed after being badly damaged by a subsequent fire on 11 September. Conspiracy theorists (or teenagers talking rubbish on message boards) claim it was blown up by a controlled explosion, though no-one can explain why or to what purpose. Watching this whole "conspiracy" edifice totter in the face of actual evidence is greatly satisfying.
