A legendary performance by Israel

The most recent reports quote something like 1,300+ Palestinian dead vs 13 Israelis who lost their lives in the recent slaughter in Gaza

However, at least four of those Israelis were killed by their own forces. Adding them onto the Israeli casualty count effectively overstates Hamas' existential-threatening striking power by at least 40%

1,300 against 9

And there are still some fuckers out there claiming that this was some kind of defensive action

In all of the blood-stained history of colonial Britain the gold standard for slaughter was the Battle of Omdurman when, as in the wildest dreams of contemporary neocon psychopaths, an army of Muslim insurgents stood in open ground and offered themselves up to be slaughtered by the thousand with the most modern weapons available to the British invaders

It was less of a battle and more of an exercise in geometry as General Kitchener's troops methodically arranged the arcs of fire of their artillery and machine guns to cut down as many people as possible before tea time

The casualty figures for this legendary one-sided slaughter were

9,700 Sudanese vs. 47 British

... 1,300 Gazans vs. 9 Israelis

Hmmm, definitely comparable

though, of course, Kitchener's men didn't butcher anywhere near as many children.

I've given up with some people. They refuse to acknowledge that the IDF and Israeli leadership are murderous dogs, always some excuse about rocket fire. Or "human shields".

Stef said...

Even Mark Regev has ditched that that bullshit about the rockets

The human shield thing has been a little more persistent but, again, even Regev has had to ease up on that, in the light of evidence that non combatants were deliberately targeted, and talk about the 'fog of war'

In fairness, the fact that the Israelis killed a few of their own does support the fact that some accidental slaughter took place, but we are talking a handful

Above all of the specifics of the causalities and who was slaughtered accidentally and who was slaughtered deliberately (though arguably all died as the result of a deliberate, calculated decision to start the slaughter) there's the sheer pointlessness of it all

So, the Israelis managed to destroy some crap fireworks, demolish a few tunnels and slaughter a few hundred ghetto dwellers

For all the good that will have done them they may as well have stayed at home

I use the term 'home' very loosely here

Stef said...

Personally, if I was involved with the butchery in any way I'd have serious trouble sleeping at nights

Even if I were so much of racist fuck, programmed to hate from birth, that the death of a few hundred untermensch didn't bother me I'd still be thinking in the back of my mind somewhere that there could well be a reckoning for all the slaughter at some point down the line

After all, they're still hunting Nazi murderers down 60+ years on

Anonymous said...

After all, they're still hunting Nazi murderers down 60+ years on

Yeah, on occasion they can't help it from happening, especially in the last few years. And they hanged a could after the war. So what. What does Bush care, that he might be prosecuted in 60 years? Or take Pinochet, in house arrest from 16th October 1998 till 2nd March 2000. Wow. All the pro-Western despots must be shaking in their boots now.

Ok, if you happen to find yourself on the wrong side of the stick, like, well, Saddam or, say, a Hamas leader, or take Milosevic for example, then your life is forfeit. But it would be forfeit for opposing the "Western" rule, no matter what other things you did.

there could well be a reckoning for all the slaughter at some point down the line

On the international stage there is only victor's justice and Israel thinks it's set on victory. Nobody is going to worry until that changes, I'm afraid.

@rob&stef: And what you seriously fail to understand is that these people see themselves as doing the perfectly rational thing. Yes, there are actual psychopaths out there, no question. The point is, people can do this, AND see themselves as acting rationally.

Take the Nazis for example. In their frame of mind, they didn't perceive themselves as murderers or psychopaths. While I don't question that *some* were in it for their perverse interests, many believed that in a Darwinian "selection of the fittest" kind of sense that they were superior and had to eliminate the weaker. They perceived it as the perfect rational thing to do. No reason to sleep bad at night.

Neither the Israelis nor the Palestinians do what they do because they are evil wicked psychopathic monsters. Some, without any doubt, are motivated by hate. A fighter pilot droping bombs may be thinking he is doing the right thing for his country. Or he may hate the other side. But there is no reason for him to sleep bad at night, as long as Israel has full spectrum dominance.

I'm having trouble getting my sentences together at this time, I hope you understand what I try to say...

What I was trying to say, they have a coherent view of themselves and the world in which they live in. The main thing that is missing is self-doubt and self-reflection. Many people don't think about the context of their actions. How can they develop doubts or guilt, if they don't think about what they do?

a couple of comments up I use the line

Even if I were so much of racist fuck, programmed to hate from birth, that the death of a few hundred untermensch didn't bother me

so, sadly, I do see, as I suspect does rob

but, unless you are a true psychopath, I believe that damage is still done. Maybe you wouldn't notice when you are awake, but in your dreams...

most, if not all, people are born with an inherent sense that killing is wrong, which is why the state has to train away that instinct not to pull the trigger

there are, of course, people who don't have any such instinct which needs training away and I have no doubt their services are in very high demand

Anonymous said...

I'm sorry, yesterday I had a "discussion" with someone who was defending "targeted killings". It left me quite angry...

most, if not all, people are born with an inherent sense that killing is wrong

I would say that is called empathy in the English language (I could be wrong to the exact word, I'm not that fluent in English).

The problem is, perceiving someone as a mortal threat trumps empathy. I would say this is based on a "friend or foe" decision, which has been made at some point. And unless doubted or revised, it will continue to stand.

Göring's "Why, of course, the people don't want war." comes to my mind.

I'm hoping the start a teacher training course later in the year but one of my problems is that it would be easiest to train in a subject I hold a relevant degree in

I have a couple of earthy science degrees and I still find geology/ natural science fascinating subjects

No problem then?

Aside from the fact that since picking up those degrees I've concluded that Darwinism is a seriously, probably terminally, flawed theory and the way Climate Change is being presented and exploited is a pile of shit

So, how long would I last?

I don't actually have any theories of my own to replace the official paradigms but, sooner or later, I'd still be toast

Not like the bad old days before the triumph of science over dogma eh?

Stef 19:21 So, how long would I last?

A comrade of mine works at a state-agency, here in Hamburg. He works in a part of town which is considered problematic (by local standards). His job is to make sure elementary school pupils get a good education, that they don't get abused by their parents. He even trains teachers how to teach under those condition in this part of town. He talks about his work when he has time and the basic line is: "How can you ask the parents to help with the homework of their children, if the parents can't even manage to have food in the fridge?" It is a loosing battle.

And he realizes it, he has a very solid Marxist view of the world. He knows that you solve nothing if by asking the parents "to do a better job". And he speaks openly about it - even on work. Now Hamburg is ruled since 2001 by the CDU, kind of the German Tories, so you'd think he'd be in massive trouble by now. Yet he is doing fairly well, mainly because he is good in his work and because when he talks about Marxist ideas at work, he does it very solidly, calmly and in a way that makes it difficult to attack him. Its hard to describe.

And when I grew up, my main-teacher from grade 7 to 10 was a proud member of the green-party. He teached me well, I guess, stayed true to his believes. And that was back in Bavaria, which is firmly in the hands of the CSU, the little bit more to the right Bavarian variant of the CDU, and where being a Green was nearly as bad as being a Red...

Now, I don't really know you, but I'd think you'd do okay in this pre-"Paradigm-Shift" age. And as far as I can say, with the chronic understaffed and underfunded school-system in almost every country in the world, your future colleagues and even superiors will welcome anybody who does a solid job, even he is a little bit of the dominant paradigm. Heck, these days, I guess they'd be glad if the new colleague doesn't come to work drunk or can tell which atoms make up Carbon Dioxide.

or a strange Doctor tale.My son had real bad tonsillitis just before Christmas. We took him to the doc and he gave him strong antibiotics.Got rid of the tonsillitis no problems. After he came off the antibiotics he got Diarrhea,,this went on for 1 week.Took him to the doc again. He took a sample.Turned out he had "Campylobacter"anyway the doc said oh there is no treatment to get rid of it.After 5-10 days it will go away.My wife asked if there were foods we should avoid to stop the Diarrhea.
The doc said no no he can eat anything he wants, and milk? we asked,,milk is ok to.Well fuck me I thought thats a bit odd.

Apparently there is a new school of thought regarding illness in the medical profession and its eat whatever the fuck you like no matter what the fuck is the matter with you!We had this confirmed by another doctor that it is indeed a new policy ie if you are ill doctors will not advise you to change your diet.Got thre shit,,no fuckin problem.
These fucker have not got a clue.

If you are ill don´t eat.Fast with fluids only I always thought.

Remember Colony Collapse Disorder? I say it was the German "Bayer" chemical company, with its "Poncho" Pesticide, that killed the bees. Leave it to the Germans! We know how to poison the world.

And while we are at German Core Competencies: Did you hear that Germany wants to patrol along the Gaza-Egypt border? Leave it to the Germans! We know how to run a prison camp.

Sometimes, just sometimes, - and I try to fight that thought - I ask myself, if this world hasn't deserved to go down the drains. I have just finished the book by Parenti about Yugoslavia, and it makes me sick if I read about the bombing of Yugoslavia by NATO, the demonization of the Serbs and the total disintegration of that country - by way of the butcher knife. A really fine club of civilized western and democratic countries, we are.

What I heard a couple of years back: Children actually "know" what they need, it is what they want. Only as a adult it gets more and more difficult to hear what your body tells you.

Don't know what to make of it, sounded plausible when I first heard it. Certainly this basic understanding of what food a child need is skewed by processed, flavoured and flavour enhanced foods.

If the child wants milk, give him milk (unless of course he is lactate intolerant) - if he doesn't want it, don't force it.

Same is supposed for hunger. Don't force the child to "finish its plate", don't let it be hungry. Teach to learn to listen to the hunger and to the well-fed feeling.

Oh well, I had my Hippie 15 minutes. Back to being a sarcastic misanthrope again.

The most important fact of getting along in a collective, like teachers in a school, is not to make your colleagues look bad. If everybody drinks, don't be sober at work. You don't have to reach their blood alcohol level, but show a bit effort. And don't overdo it - nobody likes a striver, dweeb, swot or wonk.

You sure Stef? As far as I know GM is allowed in the whole of the EU.

There's even regulations designed to neutralise competition by having standardised sizes for fruit.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2008/nov/02/sainsbury-supermarkets-eu-regulation-halloween

Of course the EU itself was a way for businesses to avoid problems of national tariffs by forcing laws on the entire populace of the European region.

You can be prosecuted for selling irregularly shaped fruit\vegetables, according to the article I linked above from the Guardian:

A leading supermarket has been forced to ditch a healthy eating campaign at the eleventh hour after discovering its staff could be individually prosecuted under EU regulations.

Sainsbury's planned to launch Halloween 'zombie brains' cauliflowers, 'witches fingers' carrots and 'ogres toenails' cucumbers using under-sized and misshapen vegetables that are currently banned from sale.

'Because Halloween is focused on sweets and snacks for children, we thought we would add a healthy message and use the surplus vegetables,' said a spokesman. 'We knew it was illegal but we were happy to take that risk as a company and say: "Bring it on, EU."'

'But last week we discovered it wouldn't actually be us as a company that would be prosecuted. It would be individual store managers. And, obviously we could not ask our staff to risk a criminal record for the good of the company.'

extremely grim.Hell on earth.
war crimes galore.no one will be convicted.
Where is the outrage??the world in descending into chaos.no question.

On July 1, 2002, the International Criminal Court, a treaty-based court located in The Hague, came into being for the prosecution of war crimes committed on or after that date. However, several nations, most notably the United States, China, and Israel, have criticized the court and refuse to participate in it or to permit the court to have jurisdiction over their citizens. Note, however, that a citizen of one of the 'objector nations' could still find himself before the Court if he were accused of committing war crimes in a country that was a state party, regardless of the fact that their country of origin was not a signatory. War crimes are defined in the statute that established the International Criminal Court, which includes: 1. Grave breaches of the Geneva Conventions, such as: 1. Willful killing, or causing great suffering or serious injury to body or health 2. Torture or inhumane treatment 3. Unlawful wanton destruction or appropriation of property 4. Forcing a prisoner of war to serve in the forces of a hostile power 5. Depriving a prisoner of war of a fair trial 6. Unlawful deportation, confinement or transfer 7. Taking hostages 2. The following acts as part of an international conflict: 1. Directing attacks against civilians 2. Directing attacks against humanitarian workers or UN peacekeepers 3. Killing a surrendered combatant 4. Misusing a flag of truce 5. Settlement of occupied territory 6. Deportation of inhabitants of occupied territory 7. Using poison weapons 8. Using civilians as shields 9. Using child soldiers
