Is that Guy Pearce sitting next to the Russian defence minister?

Congratulations to Finnish Foreign Minister and Chair of the OCSE Alexander Stubb for brokering a cease-fire between Russia and Georgia

Alexander Stubb

Kudos too for his amusing resemblance to a perma-tanned Guy Pearce

Guy Pearce

And some of the photography on his homepage is pretty special as well...

Alexander strikes me as a very interesting individual; capable of negotiating the suspension of the most savage genocidal conflicts, yet sensitive and comfortable with himself enough to prance around cyberspace like a complete nonce

I salute him

.

You must have watched him preening himself on Newsnight like a popinjay.

We are indeed fortunate to have such perefct examples amongst us of these the diplomatic art - just think how long it COULD have taken to agree with everything Mr Medvedev said he wanted.

We'll try again ..

You must have watched him preening himself on Newsnight like a popinjay.

We are indeed fortunate to have such a perfect examples amongst us of a master of diplomatic arts - just think how long it COULD have taken to agree with absolutely everything Mr Medvedev demanded.

The puzzle is why Mrs Sarkozy's husband and that charming Mr Kouchner flew to Moscow to roll over and have their tummy tickled... especially when they could have quite easily done it by phone / fax / e-mail.

"I am Dmitry, I have gas. I have many, many gas. You want my gas? Sure, you want my gas. You love my gas. If I say act like perfumed lady and you can have my gas, you will act like perfumed lady. You love my gas. But how much you want my gas? Put dress on. Do it now!!"

... the Finnish Foreign Minister is, of course, an almost perfect candidate for such a challenging role

Can't help noticing that on one of Stubb's pages he appears to be emulating a golf swing and underneath one the the zany pics is the words... "This what what an MEP's day is like"
Hummm...

{Still... far better than the utter plebs we've got for MP's}

Reminds me of LA Confidential:

The Guy Pearce character talking about Putin saying "Rollo Tomasi - the one that got away"

Don't know why, though.

Someone took things a little too seriously when they said, "in this game son, image is everything".

Look at him! He looks mad as a hatter. Top loon points Stef.

Hans-Peter Martin and RTL in the fight against abuse of expense allowances:

A Member of the European Parliament (MEP) in Brussels earns approx. 14,700 euros per month (~£11,587), according to this RTL Report (in German with English subtitles). How much the MEPs have to work (or don't work) for their €14,700 is the subject of this on-site RTL investigation in Brussels. The video is about MEPs who sign in on attendance lists and then disappear immediately for their weekend. RTL investigating journalists were thrown out of the EU building in Brussels during their work.
I say fuck the meps the lazy bastards

What a find. The image gallery is sort of like a cross between Zoolander and the clip art that used to come with Microsoft Frontpage.
