Someone left a link to an article by the Grauniad's George Monbiot entitled '9/11 Fantasists pose a mortal danger to popular oppositional campaigns' under one of my posts yesterday
I read it
I didn't like it
I've got no problem with the fact that George doesn't share my doubts about what happened on 9/11, and I would guess 7/7.
Fine
What does piss me off is the arrogance coming out of the piece.
An arrogance that might be bearable if it were deserved but, fuck me, am I having real trouble identifying how George and his precious movements have made the world a better place ... or am I having real trouble identifying how George and his precious movements have made the world a better place...
The last time I looked
- The war in Iraq happened
- Rapacious Globalisation has gone from strength to strength
- Social mobility in the UK is falling. Inequality is rising
- 'Operation turn UK plc into a Police State' is well and truly underway
- And an awful lot of people are being suckered into a fucked-up view of climate change that will be used as a tool for unprecedented social control by the 'enlightened' few, George Monbiot included presumably
And all this whilst a supposed Left Wing party, presumably the party of choice for Monbiot and his fellow Grauniadistas, has been in power ... for ten years
Fuck George and all his other useless Chomsky clone mates
They just don't get it
And if even I didn't have doubts about 9/11 to start with I'd be sorely tempted to pretend that I have just because 9/11 scepticism has the magic property of pissing off both the establishment and established anti-establishment figures like Monbiot. So it definitely has something going for it. And if it helps torpedo movements that have nobbers like Monbiot at the helm, even better. Maybe people will put together something effective next time.
I just loved this extract from Monbiot's online bio...
Monbiot’s fifth book, The Age of Consent: A Manifesto for a New World Order, was published in 2003. The book is an attempt to set out a positive manifesto for change for the global justice movement. Monbiot critiques anarchism and Marxism, arguing that any possible solution to the world’s inequalities must be rooted in a democratic system. The four main changes to global governance which Monbiot argues for are a democratically elected world parliament which would pass resolutions on international issues; a democratised United Nations General Assembly to replace the unelected UN Security Council; an International Clearing Union which would automatically discharge trade deficits and prevent the accumulation of debt; and a Fair Trade Organisation which would regulate world trade in a way that protects the economies of poorer countries.
Well, that sounds excellent. A centralised, omnipotent One World government. That would certainly be one in the eye for the Forces of Darkness. There's no way people and entire nations could be exploited and enslaved under a system like that.
Sign me up for that George
You twat
There really is something about the way this NWO, global government, population control, eco-Nazi bullshit keeps popping up in all sorts of places, on either side of supposed political divides, that I find particularly creepy
I could wax lyrical about how much I adore people like Monbiot, their wisdom and their saint-like humility for hours but there's no need. This article by Steve Watson does a blinding job IMHO. It's hosted on one of Alex Jones' sites but I like the piece enough to forgive its dodgy provenance. I particularly enjoy the tale of 'George Monbiot and the Mystery of the Missing 9/11 Article'...

Perhaps Monbiot might have been advised to avoid the use of terms such as "gibbering idiots" and other emotive language like "virus", "disease" and "infect", none of which was required to make the point he was endeavouring to make in his first article. His second effort was no better either.
And who do you think wrote this little gem, as published on Tuesday 16th October 2001?

Gagging the sceptics
The US, founded to protect basic freedoms, is now insisting that its critics are its enemies
George Monbiot Tuesday October 16, 2001 The Guardian
... If we are to preserve the progress, pluralism, tolerance and freedom which President Bush claims to be defending, then we must question everything we see and hear. Though we know that governments lie to us in wartime, most people seem to believe that this universal rule applies to every conflict except the current one. Many of those who now accept that babies were not thrown out of incubators in Kuwait, and that the Belgrano was fleeing when it was hit, are also prepared to believe everything we are being told about Afghanistan and terrorism in the US.
There are plenty of reasons to be sceptical. The magical appearance of the terrorists' luggage, passports and flight manual looks rather too good to be true. The dossier of "evidence" purporting to establish Bin Laden's guilt consists largely of supposition and conjecture. The ration packs being dropped on Afghanistan have no conceivable purpose other than to create the false impression that starving people are being fed. Even the anthrax scare looks suspiciously convenient. Just as the hawks in Washington were losing the public argument about extending the war to other countries, journalists start receiving envelopes full of bacteria, which might as well have been labelled "a gift from Iraq". This could indeed be the work of terrorists, who may have their own reasons for widening the conflict, but there are plenty of other ruthless operators who would benefit from a shift in public opinion.
Democracy is sustained not by public trust but by public scepticism. Unless we are prepared to question, to expose, to challenge and to dissent, we conspire in the demise of the system for which our governments are supposed to be fighting. The true defenders of America are those who are now being told that they are anti-American.

Yes, you guessed it, George Monbiot.
And in one slickly executed fell-swoop, George Moronbiot is hoisted by his own petard.
This is, of course, the same George Moronbiot whose father, Raymond, is the deputy chairman of the Conservative Party and Chairman of the National Convention and whose mother, Rosalie, is a Conservative councillor who led South Oxford district council for a decade. GM was always destined to be a revolutionary left wing radical extremist, ever since his early days at Stowe and, later on, Brasenose College, Oxford.
Worth noting about George Moronbiot's book, 'The Age of Consent: A Manifesto for a New World Order', a New World Order, is that notions such as Anarchism and Communism are very, very, very bad indeed and mustn't exist, no doubt because Mummy and Daddy would be very upset if a more equitable system manifested itself through the actions of the people.
Still, it seems we have stumbled into the murky and not-oft discussed world of 11/9 class politics....
Well done Mr. Antagonist, I was just about to comment on how I recall most clearly how Mr. Monbiot was once a critic of the establishment and I'm sure I have some articles on my old lap-top somewhere in which he proposes some "conspiracy theories" of his own.
You see this is what always happens to old Socialists when they get to "sit at the table".
Oh the Orwellian dichotomy of it all.
Yes, nice one Mr Antagonist
I just wish that your comment was the first one underneath Monbiot's CiF article - game over IMHO
Monbiot is just another Euston Manifesto boy. Ignore.
Glad you've seen through the global warming scam as well, how many people realise Mars etc are heating up the same amount as well, and regarding CO2 we pump out a whole 1% of the total in the atmosphere.
Taxation taxation taxation. That's the only reason for it, they have to justify the increases with something the plebs will swallow, sadly.
No no - Monbiot is not a Euston Manifesto boy. He is anti-war - and doesn't shout about Islam being evil all the time, we must give him that. And his work against Tesco and the privatisation of the NHS is the closest many of us will get to understanding just how evil these things are.
All the more reason for me to be perplexed about this recent childish outburst of his - it is so unlike him.
As for that 25th September article, it's back up on his site, I've just read it. Someone must have bought him or blackmailed him. Fuck knows.
I hear you Shahid but need I point out that Tescos has grown into a behemoth and NHS privatisation has become a fait accompli, regardless of anything Monbiot and his precious movements may have done
In fact, the process has accelerated
It's not just the 9/11 thing that leaves me suspicious of characters like Monbiot. His advocacy of One World government and promotion of a bullshit view of climate change also leave a bad taste in my mouth.
There's something sus about this man and The Antagonist's comment above skewers him pretty comprehensively AFAIC
Glad to be of service! ;)
Tesco et al: Dame Shirley Porter and all the rest of 'em. 'Nuff said.
NHS/Public Transport/Councils: Private Finance Initiative or Public Private Partnership, whatever name you give it, it is Corporatism at its most base level, or a doctrine for fascism, if you prefer.
Monbiot: A little more of the same: George Monbiot: denial, petards and the true colours of ‘radical’ left politics.
I hear both of you - ignore me - what you heard were the death shrieks of my innocence.
