Mainstream Conspiraloons #632 - Peter Hitchens

A lifetime membership of the Conspiraloon Alliance and a Croix de Loon with honeynut tinfoil clusters are winging their way towards none other than 'the Hitch'...

"It's the creepy plotters who rule us we should really be scared of

Last updated at 1:28 AM on 14th September 2008

There is no such organisation as ‘Al Qaeda’. The spooks know this, Cabinet Ministers know this and so do the ‘security correspondents’ who so readily trot out the spooks’ point of view on our broadcasting networks.

Of course, there are terrorists, and there are also fantasists, fanatics, low-lifes and camp followers who plot and attempt horrible things. Some of them even call themselves ‘Al Qaeda’ these days because they have learned that this is a good way to scare us.

But, while they are a menace, they are not as big or as organised a menace as the Government likes to make out..."

Hark, is that the sound of pennies dropping in Middle England I can hear in the far (far) off distance?

Still, Hitchler is light years ahead of most mainstream 'Leftist' commentators and bloggers - they're still trundling out the same old 'War on Terror Friendly™' bullcrap packaged as Civil Liberties campaigning, day in day out

Mr Hitchens, the Alliance salutes you

Well, some of the time anyway

edit: and FW(little)IW here's the comment I've submitted (in response to an especially ignorant, Pavlovian comment from someone else) under Hitchens' article

"Shortly after the 7/7 attacks Metropolitan Police Commissioner Ian Blair explained to a press conference...

"Al Qaeda is not an organization. Al Qaeda is a way of working ... but this has the hallmark of that approach ... Al Qaeda clearly has the ability to provide training ... to provide expertise ... and I think that is what has occurred here"

Anyone who can take that kind of nonsense on board is a much more eligible candidate for a course of medication and believing in bigfoot

...and belief in a bearded terror mastermind controlling a multinational crime network from a secret base in a hollowed out mountain somewhere. A base that the most technologically advanced nation on Earth has been unable to locate in seven years"

I await the results of comment moderation with bated breath

.

Welcome back. There has been fuck all decent to read for over a week now!

first comment says

"There is no such organisation as ‘Al Qaeda’."

And I suppose 9/11 was an inside job, and Bigfoot shot Kennedy?

Dang. I had immense respect for you until I read this. I loved your book. I knew you were in denial about the threat of terrorism, but lots of conservatives are. But if you actually believe there is no Al Qaeda, it is way past medication time for you, old chap.

I wonder when the spooks will be put on trial for treason?

It scares me to say it, but Hitchens (P) has been on cracking form lately - he's certainly not afraid to piss of his Mail on Sunday readers...

Exactly right.

there's this epic as well

One of the great joys of the 'Who the fuck are you?' Milliband story? is the torrent of universal support for the Russian foreign minister in readers' comments sections

Universal dislike of David Milliband could very well be the force which heals and unites this divided, fractured world once and for all

Actually 'The Hitch' is either PH's sockpuppet or his brother.

pedant does have a point and I have consequently edited 'The Hitch' to read 'the Hitch'

am contemplating a further revision to 'a Hitch' or even 'a hitch'

On revisiting a Hitch's original blog entry I note that my comment has yet to pass moderation

However, Hitchens himself has replied with something uncannily similar - if longer...

"Joyce" sneers at my contention that "There is no such organisation as ‘Al Qaeda’."
And I suppose 9/11 was an inside job, and Bigfoot shot Kennedy?"

Precisely the opposite, Joyce, as it happens. The belief in an organisation called 'Al Qaeda', simultaneously nebulous and tightly organised, is the fantastical one. Read Jason Burke's book on the subject, and you will find that 'Al Qaeda' is an ideology, not an organisation, and
has been portrayed as an organisation mainly for reasons of US law.

Compare 'Al Qaeda' with actual terror organisations such as the Provisional IRA. The PIRA has a command structure, leaders,a defined cell structure, funds which are centrally controlled, its own political front organisation.

Where are the equivalents for 'Al Qaeda'? They don't exist.

Real terror groups (again such as the PLO, Hezbollah or Hamas) have features which 'Al Qaeda' simply lacks.

But for reasons of political expediency, journalistic laziness and propaganda, and also because the 'war on Terror' has to go on simultaneously with the appeasement of IRA and PLO terror, the pretence is maintained.

It is all very well to throw personal insults at me and suggest that I am unhinged, using pseudo-Freudian language. (What does it mean to claim I am 'in denial' about the terrorist threat. This is just an intolerant and ad hominem way of complaining that I disagree with Joyce's view of the subject)

"Joyce" should try actually arguing for the existence of the thing she believes to exist. If you study it, you will find it remarkably hard to do so. For instance , what does the incessantly-used phrase "all the hallmarks of Al Qaeda" actually mean? What are these hallmarks? What distinguishes the actions of 'Al Qaeda' from those of the actually existing ( and far more diverse) mass of Islamic terror organisations which exist, largely autonomously, in many parts of the globe? I did not say there was no such tendency, or no such ideology, loosely linking such groups. I just denied the existence of the sort of James Bond Villain organisation which 'Joyce' seems to believe in.

There's a very real and chilling possibility that one of us may be channeling the other

That Zero 911 Investigation is actually very good and un-Loose Changey, although it could do without the actors' parts.

There's even an interview of Jurgen Elsasser, which is a bit of a spoiler as I'm reading his excellent book about the 911 Bosnian connection.

@Stef
Welcome back. Been geocaching yourself?

I hope you attached a mighty thick rubber band to the back of that lifelong conspiraloon Alliance.

I sense no second epiphany.

"actually existing ( and far more diverse) mass of Islamic terror organisations which exist, largely autonomously, in many parts of the globe"

---
p.s. "un-Loose Changey" - lovely expression :)

Ye olde Hitchens trappe.

Yes I was offered a P (title
*cringe* and neil) but didn't take it. I fell for the old pitfall of getting the wrong Hitchens. Peter deserves some rcognition, but iance (says lw frantically tring to cut the heavy elastic bnad) but lifetime membership? Blimey!

His claim of "...mass of Islamic terror organisations which exist, largely autonomously," - is still imflammatory. P thinks such groups arn't responding in what ever way they can to oppression we could never imagine. And he calls Hamas a terrorist organisaation.

Hopr the membership was critten in invisible ink.

Looks like C spiked his tea wiv summut.

@lwtc247

If you were to look very carefully in my original post you might find one or two cleverly hidden clues which indicate that PH doesn't exactly receive an unreserved personal endorsement from my goodself

Rest assured, PH's membership of the Conspiraloon Alliance is a purely honorary, non-executive role

I've discovered it's possible to get drunk simply by breathing air. (QED my post above).

It doesn't work however unless one indulges in more than 2 hours sleep per day for about 2 weeks, and since my internet access ability has recently sky-rocketed, 'air-boozing' has become an integral part of life.

The results have been very interesting *hic*, if not extremely exhausting and a tad embarrassing.

Thanks for your understanding guys.
