Hypno-Teddy

The Peninsula Hotel Manila, prior to this morning's redecoration - they do a very nice eat all you want sushi buffet on Friday nights when they're not being occupied by the anti-government resistance.

I've just spent a large chunk of this morning watching the coverage of the hotel siege in Manila. Not because it was particularly interesting but because I've stayed at the hotel in question a couple of times. Many of the locals labour under the impression that any Westerner staying there is CIA, an organised criminal, a sex tourist or a combination of all three. They're not usually wrong...

Manila is actually a pretty good place to visit if you want to get a feel for what a few decades of benevolent US colonisation, followed by another few years of US sanctioned 'market-reform'-driven oligarchical rule can do for a country

And when not catching up on the latest important news from the Philippines listen to me very carefully and watch the teddy bear...

Keep your eyes fixed on the teddy bear

Think of nothing else except the teddy

You are feeling very, very angry...

also available in the same series - Hypno-Football Manager Bear / Hypno-Notorious Unsolved Murder Bear and Hypno-Bullshit Gun Crime Crackdown Bear

The police were certainly very busy clearing through their to-do lists yesterday...

Oh good, not just me thinking that then.

Next on BBC News 24, "Muslims flicks the v's at poor little puppy with a broken leg, and them wheels on."

Your post reminded me of a news article I read once on a US CIA agent whose own bomb blew up in his hotel room in Manila and of course, he had the compulsory suitcase full of cash (counterfeit?) with him.

The last time I remembered that was when those two SAS killers were caught in Basrah. But I've never been able to find the Manila report since.

Did you know Philippino law forbids foreign troops ont their soil, yet there are lorge contingents of US soldiers there.

The Philippines are next door to where I am currently staying.

That would probably be the fragrant Michael Meiring

Strangely, his unfortunate accident in 2002 and headlines such as “Philippine police have long been aware of operational ties between local Islamic radicals and right-wing foreigners.” didn't get much coverage in the Western press...

Well at least the Blue Peter criminals didn't call the dog Jesus.

Is there still time to get a collectors series of Bad News Bears into the shops in time for WinterSolsticemas I wonder?

I'm sure widespread distribution of Adolf and Osama bears in primary schools up and down the land would be greeted with the kind of even-tempered and restrained liberal attitudes that those barbaric wogs in the Sudan are so sadly lacking

Evening Standard was running the line...

"Was the teddy bear named through a third-party?"

You beauty!

Thank you for finding it! Embarassingly enough, I've just googled "bomb hotel manila CIA" and it came up as No.1 yet I couldn't find it despite a 1 to 2 hour search last year!

Another "stay behind-cum-Salvador option" to add to the swelling archive :)

Cheers.

Has anyone told the Nigerians that a) Osama used to work for the CIA, and b) He's dead?
