New BP Logo Contest
Of course, the really entertaining thing is that all these people getting onto the 'Kick BP Whilst It's Down' bandwagon could be playing into the hands of some very ruthless people indeed
Welcome to the mindfuck that is Advanced Conspiraloonery...
Trust no-one. Not even yourself
Blaming the oil companies for the world's ills is so 90's.
It's like blaming the gun when someone gets shot.

Explore the fascinating world of Chinese tungsten paperweights
"Tungsten paperweight is composed of a metal alloy, tungsten heavy alloy. The alloy allows for maximum hardness and rigidity without sacrificing tensile strength. Each tungsten paperweight is polished with diamond tools. Hardness, assuring long lasting beauty, permanently polished. Tungsten paperweight takes a brilliant high polish and resists scratching longer than any metal ever offered to the public. Roughly ten times harder than 18k gold and four times harder than Titanium, Tungsten paperweight will never bend out of shape.
It is also possible to have "custom" bars made to your specifications."
"In theory, as its density is 19.1g/cm3, which is approximately 70% denser than lead, uranium could be used as material of making fake coin. However, it is weakly radioactive and not as dense as gold, so it does not appear to be a practical method.
Then people have discovered that tungsten is environmental-friendly, durable and hardness, the most important is that its density of 19.25g/cm3 is just about the same density as gold (19.3g/cm3), which bears the similar specific gravity. These advantages make tungsten enjoys the superiority to be the best substitute for the costly metal of gold or platinum. It is necessary to tell that alloying gold with tungsten would not work for several reasons but a coin with a tungsten center and gold all around it could not be detected as counterfeit by density measurement alone."
However, please note...

It's business as usual and full steam ahead
I got excited for a minute there and thought that the new government was going to give everyone a house.
Unfortunately, the State's definition of home-ownership is a little different from mine and involves a huge fucking mortgage, tailored to meet the full extent of what you can afford; provided you don't get sick, lose your job, have a kid, get married, get divorced...
There again, 'Renting directly from a bank - not renting indirectly from a bank via a landlord - at heart of government housing strategy!!' doesn't have quite the same ring to it

edit: some of the commenting underneath that Grauniad article is awesome. I particularly enjoyed
It warms the cockles of my heart it does

Michael Hudson explains Neo-serfdom pt27
Scroll forward to 13:30 and sit back whilst Prof. Hudson lets rip with his smooth, easy-listening, duck-like tones...
IMHO it's worth spending a little time switching onto what Hudson has been saying all these years because the explanatory and, more importantly, the predictive power of his model of how economics works is solid. If you want to know how things are expected, by the powers that be, to play out in Austerity UK he most definitely is worth listening to

How to make friends and influence people pt 729
Some quality genocide denial there. Though it's worth contemplating that anyone in mainland Europe who might think about responding with some equally hilarious racist historical revisionism, aimed at Israeli citizens, would get locked up for a few years
I'll be uploading a copy of my favourite scene from Cabaret up onto Ziotube with the same tags as this despicable piece of shit shortly. ..

Gewaltmonopol des Staates
Dead in the Water
A couple of days early for the anniversary but this BBC documentary (a throwback to a time when the BBC still made documentaries rather than videos of press releases) about the USS Liberty attack is definitely worth a spin...
It gets especially interesting towards the end when lots of people, including Psycho-in-Chief Robert McNamara, start suffering from spontaneous memory loss and bad tempers
Hmmm, Robert McNamara in a bad mood, not good
The Israelis' explanation of how they mistook an American ship traveling at 2-3 knots for an Egyptian ship traveling at 25-30 knots is equally entertaining, particularly when you hear how the Israelis started jamming American, not Egyptian, radio frequencies just before they started dropping napalm on the ship's decks...
Oh yes, and there's a bit where some ex US military types start talking about how nuclear armed American jets were minutes away from vaporising Cairo
It's a shame more Americans don't know about the Liberty attack, as some of them might get round to asking why they've been subsidising this sort of thing through billions of dollars of aid every year. Aid to a country with a GDP per capita somewhere between Italy and New Zealand which, the last time I looked, were doing just fine without any US subsidy

edit: meanwhile, back in 2010, more comedy chutzpah gold from those side-splitting Israeli spokesfolk...

If he runs he's VC. If he stands still he's well disciplined VC
Would you like to know what really happened on that boat? Here's the scoop...
though, as events proved, murder in your eyes turns out to be considerably less lethal than murder in your guns
Being a big Full Metal Jacket fan, I particularly appreciated this line...
T. said he realized the group they were facing was well-trained and likely ex-military after the commandos threw a number of stun grenades and fired warning shots before rappelling down onto the deck. “They didn’t even flinch,” he said. “Regular people would move.”
They really are taking the piss now
and, hmmm, do I detect the first signs of an admission that the Israelis did fire their weapons before landing on the boat after all? I believe I do

The Joseph Goebbels Handbook: Chapter 5 – Fine Dining and Watersports
Whilst wading through the GIYUS-style spam which is being posted underneath articles about the lethal act of Israeli piracy earlier this week, I’ve occasionally bumped into references about how the Israeli blockade doesn’t need to be broken anyway
The Friends of Israel who’ve commented against the necessity of blockade running have informed the casual reader that market stalls in Gaza are literally groaning under the weight of produce on offer.
They’ve also mentioned that exotic, mouth-watering dishes such as ‘steak au poivre’ are on offer in Gaza’s extensive selection of gourmet restaurants
A quick Google search for ‘Fine Dining in Gaza’ by myself and the source of this nonsense was quickly established…
“In a bid to stir awareness of anti-Israeli slants in foreign media coverage of Gaza, the Government Press Office sent an e-mail on Wednesday to members of the Foreign Press Association in Israel containing a guide to a luxurious restaurant in the Strip and a recently opened Olympic-sized pool”
Hmmm, fine dining and lovely big swimming pools
Would those swimming pools be even more luxurious than this one?
And would those markets and restaurants be even more overstocked with tasty comestibles than the ones they had in this paradise on earth?
Theresienstadt 1944 - simply lovely...
I don’t know what the fuck is going on in Gaza. I do know that I’ve always been able to get a decent meal even in the shittiest places I’ve been to around the world, provided I had enough money in my pocket. I wouldn’t however be so wilfully deceitful as to pretend that this proved the general populations in those shitty places were having it easy
So, no I haven’t been to Gaza, but when apologists for what’s going on there start quoting from the Auschwitz and Theresienstadt Lonely Planet Guide, c.1944 I certainly start to feel creeped out
And if a goy like myself feels creeped out by references to swimming pools as being proof that life is OK somewhere I would hazard a guess that the better educated mensch behind that press release would have at least some idea of the historical irony they're toying with

"Brilliant, we could do part-time ownership as well.
For example people who do a night shift could share with people on the dayshift.
This way we can double the returns on housing.
Another way to sort out the house market could be renting out shops
on a part-time shop/ part time accommodation basis.
Workers could live in the factories where they work and cab drivers could
live in their cars.
This way we can assure that there will be enough space for some more
Russian billionaires in London."
