Neville Chamberlain or Winston Churchill, what role are you going to play?

PARENTAL WARNING: There is no connection between dates and events in the 1930s and those in our 2000s ... or is there?

I know your finger is twitching on the mouse, antsy to click out of here, but perhaps you’ll find this just fascinating enough to stick around for a bit and read what I have to write.

Back to Neville and Winston. If my history lessons serve me well, a real bad actor stepped up on the world stage in 1933 named Herr Hitler.

Times were tough in the 1930s and people didn’t want to deal with bad actors, so support for Chamberlain’s appeasement was broad; yet many were beginning to listen to Churchill’s serious concerns.

Too late perhaps, for several opportunities were lost to confront Hitler between 1933 and 1939.

What does that have to do with us? This is not the 1930s. Our situation is different. No one is getting ready to attack us: I think I can still get out to shop.

True, we’re not looking at a photo of the 1930s, rather – I believe – we’re looking at the 1930s in a mirror. Left is now right.

No one is getting ready to attack the UK, it’s the UK that’s attacking. Blair lied and - as allies of the US - attacked Iraq in 2003.

In 2004, the US reconfirmed the Bush Agenda by his reelection and his sights are now set on Iran.

In three weeks, Blair’s support for the Bush Agenda may be reconfirmed by his reelection. What message would that send to Bush? Perhaps: ‘Go ahead, attack Iran, we’re behind you 100%.’

So look in the mirror and pick a role, Chamberlain or Churchill, then pick a venue. Are we going to play this out in a comedy club or in the street?

We’re two years into the six year span between 2003 and 2009. No special date there, but 2009 WILL BE the year the next US president takes office.

Don’t rest now. Pick a role. It’s time to act!

Mmmmm, you be a psychic Daemon - I've been brooding on such matters this very morning and will probably scribble something on the subject shortly, if only to stop those voices for short while

those damn voices ...
