What's the odds that this is newscorp's version of the wikileaks insurance file?

Statistcalotiously, I would say its like a black swan, sitting on Buck House's roof, eating crisps.

Well worth a punt.

Stef said...

Wot? Like this you mean...

If News Corp hacked the phones of 9/11 families, Fox News is finished

Stef said...

... whether Fox News would be finished or not, would be, highly dependent on whatever it hacked

paul said...

It's a wild fancy for sure

I know I should be elated that 7/7 scepticism is hitting the tabloids but for some reason that sensation escapes me

MPs are off on their extended summer breaks in the next couple of days, although maybe a whole day late (shock, horror!) because of that pesky phone hacking story, which means the 'news'-even-sillier-than-usual season must get underway.

What a way to start.

Stef said...

The silly season would indeed appear to be in full swing...

London Mayor Boris Johnson says of the resignation of Sir Paul Stephenson and John Yates: "Both decisions are regrettable but the right call has been made. Nothing has been proven against the probity or professionalism of either man. But both were distracting in the run-up to the Olympic Games." He also said Mr Yates would be replaced by Cressida Dick and he praised Mr Yates for his work in fighting terrorism and "saving millions of Londoners"

...1735: The BBC understands that the two senior officers named in the IPCC's investigation are former Deputy Assistant Commissioner Peter Clarke and former Assistant Commissioner Andy Hayman

Peter Clarke was, of course, the Top Anti-Terror Copper who toiled relentlessly to warn the world of the risk of Tupperware falling into the worng hands

Stef said...

Andy Hayman is, of course, the former Top Anti-Terror Copper who's Dodgy as fuck

Stef said...

Cressida Dick is, of course, the Common Purpose trained Top Anti-Terror Copper who ordered an innocent, unarmed man to be shot in the face and was rewarded with promotion and a medal

The Antagonist said...

Bonus career prizes for those who assist in placing at high-speed 7 bullets in the back of the head of innocent Brazilians.

Well done Cressida Dick, that blood on your hands washes whiter than white.

But who gets the career bonus for Sean Hoare, primary whistleblower in the News of the World phone hacking story, who was found dead this morning in circumstances that, according to the corrupt police on the News of the World / Murdoch payroll, are "not suspicious"?

The Sun Says:

Web of deceit

A POLICE intelligence expert tasked with assessing the greatest criminal threats to South Yorkshire delivers these verdicts:

There is no threat from killers, muggers, rapists, or from al-Qaeda.

The sole danger to South Yorks is from our "Satanic" Government, which carried out the 7/7 bombings.

This same Government is only at war in Afghanistan to seize control of the heroin trade.

Oh, and George Bush blew up the Twin Towers.

It ought to be hilarious.

But the fact that even a top intelligence analyst can be taken in by the lunatic conspiracy theories spreading like a virus via the internet illustrates just how beguiling and dangerous they are.

At once, they destroy the authority of politicians and police and minimise the real threat, from al-Qaeda.

We are lucky in Britain that still only a gullible minority are seduced.

But their number grows every day.

Body 'matches' Iraq expert
Last Updated: Friday, 18 July, 2003, 19:54 GMT 20:54 UK

A body matching the description of Dr David Kelly - the weapons expert at the centre of the Iraq dossier row - has been found at a beauty spot close to his home in Oxfordshire.

The Prime Minister, Tony Blair, was out of the country at the time of the body's discovery.

News of the World phone-hacking whistleblower Sean Hoare found dead
By Mirror.co.uk 18 July 2011

A former News of the World reporter who alleged Andy Coulson "encouraged" him to hack phones was found dead today.

Sean Hoare, who made claims in a New York Times article about the Prime Minister's former communications chief, was discovered at his home in Watford, Hertfordshire, after concerns were raised about his whereabouts.

The Prime Minister, David Cameron, was out of the country at the time of the body's discovery.

There are no parallels between the whistleblowing stories of David Kelly and Sean Hoare.

Stef said...

On the subject of parallels and echoes...

Daniel Morgan was a private investigator brutally murdered in Sydenham, south east London, in March 1987. He was said to have been close to exposing important police corruption. His death was the subject of several failed police inquiries and in 2011 was at the centre of allegations concerning the suspect conduct of News of the World journalists. Morgan's unsolved murder has been described as a reminder of the old London police culture of corruption and unaccountability

Old? Who said anything about old?

Stef said...

and I sincerely hope that this 'who's got the fattest set of dossiers?' pissing contest between journalists, police and politicians isn't pulled back from the brink and gets seriously out of hand

Recommended read of the decade:

Bent Coppers: Survey of Police Corruption, by James Morton

A far better read than all the books that happened to appear with the the same name but that weren't written by James Morton.

Can't go wrong for £0.01 fiat pounds.

A nice, contemporary companion piece, available for the same princely sum...

So, what's the score so far? I make it four Met Anti-Terrorism Chiefs and two Commissioners since 7/7 who've had to jump ship before allegations of corruption caught up with them...

Bob Quick
Andy Hayman
John Yates
Peter Clarke
Ian Blair
Paul Stephenson

and not forgetting the small matter of the Met's Counter-Terrorism team's expense accounts...

Detective 'used police force credit card in sex shop and to buy holidays in Euro Disney'

what a shower of cunts

Ant,

I actually bought that James Morton book at a 2nd hand shop. It is crap (hence the 1p price). The real deal must be this book, which is much harder to find (& £70 a copy).

Mr Tony Gosling listed the names of the 'Untouchable' cops, taken from the book, in a thread here.

rather than coughing 70 fiats, try your local library, true crime section.
I found 6 copies

Dunno,
it was a quick internet search, and I couldn't read that fast, anyway.

Came up with a nice gillard piece on the way, another angle on police intelligence

6 copies!

That is a lot for 1 book, or did the library keep having to add copies as the previous copies kept getting taken out on long term loan by high ranking coppers?

Did anyone cath Newsnight last night?
Richard Watson told us that senior met policemen met reporters in a wine bar near Scotland yard... & "it was all done by degrees"

6 copies across the city, 1 out on loan, I kept the search, try it again in a week, see if it works.

How may degrees did it take?

Yes, it's all coming back to me

'Police Intelligence' as much of an oxymoron as 'Corrupt Senior Police Officer' is a tautology

Farrell still avoiding mentioning J7 but praises Kollerstrom for his excellent research.

I can't wait for Farrell to say J7 is controlled opposition. It'll be so special.

I don't know what's worse

The possibility that the intelligence services have such a low opinion of the critical faculties of UK truthers

or

The fact that the critical faculties of UK truthers *are* that low

Stef said...

And, on thinking about it some, if I were tasked with protecting the official narrative my current priority would be to sabotage any efforts made by victims' families to get together to pursue their own legal action in the wake of the woeful inquest

If and how Farrell would fit into this eludes me

Anonymous said...

The fact that the critical faculties of UK truthers *are* that low

Truthers aren't interested in truth. They want a reason to rant against the government, police, security services etc, Farrell is just the food they're hungry for.

And all the while expect others to hear them and put the world right.

Bridget said...

Listening to Farrell's interview with Keelan it is clear that he is asking for money to support his discrimination appeal and that he doesn't see any point in attempting to get to the truth (we don't need it and/or won't get it) or campaigning for a fully independent Inquiry - on the contrary he thinks he already knows what the truth is - 7/7 Ripple Effect has become the official narrative for many 'truthers'.

Stef said...

I'd modify that last line slightly

'has become the official narrative for many vocal 'truthers'.'

If the majority had already swallowed it there'd be no need for incessant attempts to market that particular puppy
